Just as we brought you teaser images of the Skoda Rapid Spaceback, out it pops in its entirety. The halfway model between the smaller Fabia Combi and the larger Octavia Combi is targeting a September premiere at the Frankfurt show.
The Skoda Rapid Spaceback shares the same 2.6-metre wheelbase as the sedan-like hatch, but is 180 mm shorter overall. New are the C- and D-pillars, rear quarter windows and roof spoiler.
A panoramic tinted glass roof can be specified, and a ‘prolong rear window’ (also optional), extends the tinted glass 100 mm further down the tailgate to engulf the Skoda logo and badges.
The Czech carmaker says the Spaceback offers the best rear legroom (64 mm) and headroom (980 mm) in its class. There’s 415 litres of load space; fold the back seats down and you get a generous 1,380 litres.
Ticking the practicality boxes are an optional double cargo floor (two levels of storage) in the boot, an ice-scraper in the fuel filler flap, a safety vest holder under the driver’s seat, cupholders and a rear parcel shelf.
Powering the Euro-market Skoda Rapid Spaceback are four petrol and two diesel engines, making between 74 and 121 hp. A new 90 hp 1.6 litre TDI makes its debut in the GreenLine version, allowing the parsimonious member of the Spaceback family to return a quoted 3.8 litres per 100 km and emit only 99 grams of CO2 per km.
Safety equipment includes front, side and head airbags, with ABS and ESC standard in EU nations. Also available are xenon headlamps, tyre pressure control, cornering fog lamps and hill assist.
Skoda says that on average, one new or re-engineered model will be introduced every half a year as part of its model offensive, which aims to lift sales up to at least 1.5 million units a year by 2018.

Any chance this one would land in Malaysia?
Skoda does sell cars in Malaysia. Well, they offer them. Selling would imply anyone buys them. It’s a shame, but that’s Malaysia. (Also they try to copy Renault in Malaysia and only offer the expensive models… that doesn’t help).
but does cheaper models like sonic, mirage don’t sell well either. it’s just that national made and likes of toyota, honda & nissan already have strong customer base here!
Look like preve hatchback!!!
looks like preve…timeless design…
front looks a little like a Waja
My eye My eye My eye. Did i just woke up and back to 80’s with this design ?
Whoever said looks like preve must be blind and delusional
The Tuah concept and the Rapid concept looked pretty similar. Look them up. Especially from the side, the front is different.
why u said like that..?? jeleous proton design same with international brand like skoda..?? for your information, preve was design by Italdesign..dont just condemn without precise information…what a typical malaysian minded..
FYI Italdesign having the last laugh of fooling Proton how good the design kah kah kah
The spaceback offers less space than the Rapid sedan/aeroback, so I disagree, it won’t really slide in between the wagon versions of the Fabia and Octavia. This is more of a Rapid hatchback. Like Preve hatchback…
That interior really resembles Preve design, from the steering up to the panel, aircond vent and finishing design… Skoda rebadge Proton?
