2014 Toyota Harrier set for year-end debut in Japan

toyota harrier 2014 02

After skipping a generation, the Toyota Harrier is set return to the fold. After being present for the first two generations of the type, the arrival of the third-generation AL10 Lexus RX in 2008 saw the equivalent Harrier version being dropped from the Toyota line-up.

Looks like it has indeed been missed, and with that, a new one is coming about. The first images of the new Harrier have been released, popping up on a special page on the automaker’s domestic website. The SUV is scheduled to make its market debut at the end of the year – ahead of that, it should get its premiere at the Tokyo Motor Show in November.

Only the exterior shots are to be had; no details as yet on the vehicle, even though there’s a brief release on it via the website – all that’s said is that the new one continues with familiar design elements such as that tilted C-pillar and that the “strong exterior lines are flowing with a sense of speed” (that’s Google Translate at work, by the way). And that it’ll be sold domestically through Toyopet stores nationwide.

We’ll know more as it gets closer to the TMS. Considering that the RX should be due to go into its fourth-gen cycle sometime next year or so, the timing of the Harrier’s arrival is quite strange. As for that face, you’re either going to love it or hate it. What do you think of the 2014 Toyota Harrier?

actually when harrier aka lexus rx first made appearance in the late 90s, it did set many new trends not only for other toyota models but also to the automotive world as a whole.

among the new ideas were rounded shape lense tail lamp clusters, gearshift lever mounted on dashboard, illuminated instrument meters, foot operated parking brake, 5 headrests, Vehicle Stability Control and also Day Running Lights.

its hardly surprising if this 4th gen Harrier will do the same. many wont believe but only time will tell.

A blue hue logo, it would be a hybrid.
This car looks nice, if they managed to work on that radiator like grill, it would be better. But the rear looks like a WRX STi hatchback.
Well, this looks better or Korean/European/American Santa Fe?

I think the most obvious sign is the hybrid badge below the a pillar rather than the blue hue logo

  • If they’ve could change that grill with a proper one it would’ve look great, but now they’ve just made something that gave optometrist a boost in business. Speaking of business, the rear dose looked the business, better than the RX that it is based. So kinda mix opinion with this, great ass, Hedious face. A bit like Kim kardashian appearance.

a standard requirement for importing used cars from a foreign countries for business is the car cannot be less than a year old and when that time comes in 2015, Malaysia already into AFTA agreement long overdue.

for grey import to come is something in the past and unlikely. not a popular step by the govt but do they have a choice?

The rear looks way better than the demon-eyes of the current RX. But the front, i prefer the latter (facelifted version).

But once you look closer, from certain angles, the front does resemble a typical ‘harrier’.. Maybe due to the grill.

    All in all, decent.

I like it. Toyota’s design team are definitely getting bolder. Not too concerned about the grille as there will be all kinds of kits from TRD etc to change it. Overall it looks like the real deal. The only problem is we can only get this thru grey importers.

I’ve got to admit, Toyota made one of the most reliable and finest riding of its cars in the Harrier (sure beats Honda’s attempt at matching them with the CRV). It would be interesting in seeing this new gen in the near future.

I believe the power train will be 2.5cc which is same as latest camry, hopefully the price will be half of RX350.

The Lexus rx uses a 2.7 for the smaller engine option so the harrier will probably use that too

You are right, but 2.7 engine is V6 right? I think so, i heard most V6 engine cannot pump Ron95.
