Bentley has at last officially confirmed its SUV model. To be built in Crewe (creating over 1,000 UK jobs in the process), the carmaker’s fourth model line is set to go on sale in 2016. Over the next three years, Bentley will invest more than £800 million into Crewe and the development of new models.
“This £800 million investment and 1,000 new jobs from Bentley is fantastic news for both Crewe and for the UK as a whole,” said Prime Minister David Cameron, who was present together with VW Group chairman Dr Martin Winterkorn for the announcement at Bentley’s Crewe HQ.
“One vehicle rolls off a production line somewhere in the UK every 20 seconds and we have just launched the Government’s Automotive Industrial Strategy to help continue this success for years to come,” he said.
Bentley says the new vehicle will be styled to “set it apart from any other SUV on the road,” while maintaining the brand’s design DNA. Additionally, it will be “the most luxurious and powerful SUV in the market.”
Previewed by the EXP 9 F concept (second picture above) at last year’s Geneva show, the high-riding Bentley is expected to share its underpinnings with the next-gen Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne. Following mixed reactions to the concept’s styling, the production car is expected to look better – we hope so, anyway!

Praise for British government insisted on all Bentley vehicles to be manufactured in Crewe, Cheshire, UK (originally the Bentley SUV was to be manufactured in Slovakia) while Bentley expands its manufacturing facility with additional 1000 jobs.
