Mercedes-AMG GmbH, a 100% subsidiary and the high performance brand of Daimler AG, and Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd are set to enter a technical partnership after a corresponding Letter of Intent was recently signed.
Essential elements of the planned partnership are supply agreements between Mercedes-AMG, Mercedes-Benz Cars and Aston Martin. Mercedes-AMG will supply Aston Martin with engines, while Mercedes-Benz Cars will provide the British luxury sports car manufacturer with electric and electronic components for AM’s future models.
In addition to those agreements, Daimler will receive up to 5% equity in Aston Martin without cash consideration in several steps following the progress of the technical partnership. At the same time, the company will receive an observer status in the Board of Management of Aston Martin.
“We are proud to work with Aston Martin and provide them with powertrain and e/e components for their forthcoming sports cars. This is proof of AMG’s technological and performance expertise and a real win-win situation for both sides,” said Ola Källenius, head of Mercedes-AMG.
Aston Martin Product Development Director Ian Minards said: “We have selected AMG specifically as the basis for this powertrain development process. Aston Martin sources cutting edge technology from key suppliers around the globe and the opportunity to include content from Mercedes-AMG GmbH in our next generation sports cars is, clearly, good news.”
Based on the Letter of Intent, both parties have the intention to work towards signing of definitive agreements during the second half of the year. The transaction is subject to the conclusion on definitive agreement and applicable regulatory approvals, if required. Not the least due to competitive reasons, both parties agreed on non-disclosure of further details for the time being.
Aston Martin, powered by AMG – what’s your take on this development?
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Well, British craftsmanship + AMG One Man One Engine philosophy, that should click together.
The only thing I do not wish to see is a force inducted AM.
even before the partnership aston martin had the same one man one engine philosophy ( each one signed by a person)
Damnnn……this is the most celebrated collaboration ever……
remember Ssanyoong trucks with Merc engines? more engine specialist will supply their engines to other makes.
Hmmm…AE86 with a AMG heart…
Just a thought, unless it’s a NA, I don’t think it should be under the hood of an AE86.
Then you just killed AE86. 80-20 weight distribution.
Agreed with Chris,
Lets hope they dont replace NA with FI…
Vosprung durch uber Macht + The pinnacle of British automobile excellence. Should’t go wrong, I mean look at the Zonda!! Thou like Chris Ong, I’am kinda fear we’ll see a Turboed AM, given AMG new R&D direction. Not that that’s a bad thing but Aston Martin is not about sheer speed, but being a poised and beautiful GT that possessed a beautiful voice, and Turbo don’t really have poised nature nor a Lucio Pavarotti voice, not compared to NA. But whatever it is, I’am sure its good times ahead for AM
what about collaboration between proton and mercedes amg ? lol
proton with amg parts
Why not? At least proton can justify that their car expensive becoz of the components from Mercedes AMG.
When you are no longer young for racing, then in choosing luxury vehicles:
1. Brand
2. Look
3. Performance
007 series did popularise Aston Martin.
