GALLERY: BMW 4 Series with M Performance package

BMW 4 Series M Performance-1

Remember the M Performance package-equipped BMW 4 Series we showed you last week? Of course you do, and here it is in all its raging glory – we chanced upon the vehicle at the international press drive event of the BMW 4 Series in Portugal.

White may be the colour of innocence and bridal dresses, but this so-hued machine couldn’t be further from those angelic ideals – it’s meant to preview the looks of the upcoming BMW M4, the car that will replace the coupe and convertible versions of the legendary M3.

The M Performance package for the BMW 4 Series encompasses show as well as go. There’s an aggressive-looking lower front bumper with bigger air intakes, M Performance-inscripted side sills, darkened chrome exterior trim and a new rear apron with integrated diffuser and air extraction ducts. Mirror caps, boot spoiler and front splitter are all carbon fibre, and the kidney grille gets black slats.

The lucky driver is surrounded by an M Performance sports steering wheel with Race Display (F1-style shift lights), a gear lever and handbrake handle trimmed in carbon, carbon and Alcantara interior trim, high-grade steel pedals, a bespoke footrest and M Performance floor mats. The car was locked, so we couldn’t get a clear photograph of the cockpit – see studio shots of the interior here.

Now we get to the yummy part. The M Performance Power Kit, through software changes and new exhaust systems, boots the 420d’s output by 16 hp and 40 Nm to 195 and 419 Nm of torque, the 428i by 27 hp and 40 Nm to 269 hp and 389 Nm of torque, and the top-of-the-range 435i by 34 hp and 50 Nm to 336 hp and 450 Nm of torque. Now that a power kit exists for ’28i’ engines, 328i owners hungry for more have an avenue.

There’s also a limited-slip diff and sports suspension, while upgraded brakes with red callipers peek out from behind girthy 20-inch lightweight two-tone alloys. See Nurburgring spyshots of the upcoming M3 (sedan) and M4 (coupe) here, and keep watching this space for our test drive report of the new BMW 4 Series!

  • Can’t imagine what the new M3 and M4 would look and feel like if they were to come out with this kind of kit. Should be mean. Would definitely scared all the AMG’s away

It will be even more confusing. Bmw use odd number for 4 doors and even numbers for coupe(2 doors).
