Brabus W222 S-Class – 730 hp, 1,065 Nm, 325 km/h!

Brabus S Class-01

We’ve already seen the S63 AMG version of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class, now here’s a tuner’s take on the W222 limo. Brabus, which has a history of mega powered Mercs, has rolled out a performance kit for the S-Class with headline figures that eclipse even the S63 AMG, and the usual visual enhancements.

The plug-and-play Brabus B50-520 PowerXtra CGI performance kit is for Merc’s V8 biturbo engine in the S500. A special mapping for injection and ignition plus moderately increased boost pressure unleashes an extra 65 hp from the 4.7 litre unit.

Power jumps from 455 hp to 520 hp as a result, while peak torque is up from 700 to 820 Nm. 0-100 km/h is done in just 4.2 seconds. The Brabus Vmax unit that is part of the conversion allows limiting top speed electronically to 250, 275 or 300 km/h.

Brabus S Class-03

For those who have the S63 AMG, but aren’t satisfied, the Brabus B63-650 PowerXtra CGI kit takes the stock 585 hp/900 Nm to 650 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque, on tap between 2,250 and 3,750 rpm. Still hungry for more? The B63S-730 package raises the stakes to 730 hp and peak torque that is limited electronically to 1,065 Nm, available consistently between 1,750 and 5,000 rpm. Top speed is limited to 325 km/h!

This package includes the Brabus Gold Heat Reflection system for the intake and charge-air pipes. Brabus turbos with a larger compressor unit generates a higher boost pressure. The conversion also includes a low-temperature water radiator for the intercooling system, a free-flow exhaust system with metal catalysts and 75 mm thick downpipes, as well as special mapping for the engine management system.

Crazy numbers aside, Brabus also offers a sport exhaust system for both standard (S500, S63 AMG) and converted engines. A butterfly valve is controlled by a push of a button on the steering wheel, where drivers can choose to operate the V8 in a discreet “Coming Home” mode or to enjoy a “markedly throaty exhaust note” in the “Sport” position.

Brabus S Class-08

There are also special control modules that lower the ride height of vehicles with Airmatic or Active Body Control suspension by about 15 mm.

What’s a Brabus Merc without the brand’s Monoblock alloys? Here, we have wheels in 19, 20 or even 21 inches in diameter. The largest tyre/wheel combo on offer features forged and mirror-polished Brabus “Platinum Edition” Monoblock VI or Monoblock F cross-spoke wheels in size 9Jx21 on the front axle and in size 10.5Jx21 in the rear.

“0-100 km/h is done in just 4.2 seconds”

I’m not surprised, this is definitely not a supercar. So, there is no reason on why they have to make it to sub-3 sec like mine.

Such power in an e-class coupe would be more appropriate. At least it’s a drivers car not a chauffeur car.

Brabus seem to have lost their appeal these days. Now they look the ordinary 3rd-party aftermarket upgrade for Merc.

One reason I could think of is that Merc now produces more beautiful cars and it’d be more difficult for others to reproduce a more ‘perfect’ Merc lines.

Kind of like retrofitting Ferrari with those Hammann/Novitec aero kits. Downright outrageous!!

They have to think other designs since such design is easily be copied by other makers esp Kia and Hyundai. Put additional kits from tuner like Hamann also cannot work it out. This is not 40 years ago which benz can get ooohh and aaahhhh from astonished people.
