It has certainly taken a while for the second-gen BMW 1-Series to get here, but the hatchback is finally coming to town – the BMW Malaysia Facebook page is teasing a vehicle through a page called Society of One, and it’s likely to be the F20.
The site provides a challenge to enter the Society of One, the test being to break the given code, with prizes to be won to those who manage to decipher it all.
No indicators as to which variants in the 1-Series will make their way here – Munich has a wide range at hand, starting from the 114i equipped with the 102 hp and 180 Nm tune of the 1.6 litre TwinPower Turbo, right up to the range topping M135i with a 320 horsepower from a 3.0 litre turbocharged inline-6.
The previous first-gen 1er was sold here in both three-door E81 and five-door E87 guise, with the range spanning the then entry-level 116i right through to the range-topping 130i. Meanwhile, even as it gets set to make its debut here, word is that the F20 (its three-door sibling is the F21) is already being prepared for its LCI midlife facelift!

RWD nice…but design looks a bit odd.
102ps? better get the upcoming V superstar from toyo.
Got something wrong with the app though. When you enter in the alphabet and submit, later when you try and load the page again, it does not save it. Contacted BMW MY via FB but no reply. Not fair…
Nah, most likely another 1Malaysia campaign.
Well if you won, you will have a ticket for 2 to Munich, all-paid and while you’re there, you can test drive a 1-Series F20. One Malaysia?
Launch in ONE World hotel to the tune of ONE by U2…BMW is really trying very hard :P
BEEN DRIVEN IT WHEN I WAS IN UK . IT WAS GREAT .
will this be the bmw to bring bmw back to a price below rm200k? the 316i is already rm210k, mercedes’s 1-series contender starts at rm198,888 for the 1.6 turbo. will bmw price their entry level car above a mercedes benz and do the silliest thing of pricing a 1-series even higher than a 3 like (the 123i coupe was ridiculously priced when they could have brought in the 116i and 120d coupes instead) before? maybe i don’t know the ‘tax and the govt’ story but it just seemed very silly that the marketing and product heads could even consider such a scenario.
It depends really, bear in mind that the 316i is actually a CKD, and for the first batch of F20, I would assume these are CBU and traditionally, they were all CBU units.
In an ideal world, if we have the 116i, it would be at Rm189k mark, with the 118i coming in at RM199k.
i think you’re right there. wonder if it could have anything to do with the price being too low for ckd and affecting other locally assembled japanese makes.
Anthony, are you participating? I am and I had found 2 clues.
with the Volvo V40 launched with such competitive price and spec, BMW should be wise on pricing the 1-er to attract the buyers of this segment, hatches are getting more and more in Malaysia and definitely it is a good market here. With the RWD setup, this 1-er is looking good for sale of the price is good
