But while the 4 Series coupe has only just come out into the world, the current 3 Series sedan is already over a year old, so we think it’s most likely the four-door version of Munich’s hot compact exec that’s being teased here.
Whatever it is, both M3 and M4 will likely use the same engine, and the clip reveals it’s a rather angry-sounding one, as the car strains at the leash to be let out into the wild.
We still haven’t got official performance figures, but reports speculate that around 450 hp is set to come from a turbocharged straight-six engine that takes over from the free-breathing 420 hp 4.0 litre V8.
Both models should get a seven-speed M DCT and lightweight carbon fibre components when they make their market debuts next summer. As for when they’ll be revealed, reports say the M3 and M4 could premiere at the Detroit show in January. The Motor Report even suggests an M4 concept could make its way to Pebble Beach next week.
But more’s to come in the weeks to follow, we’re sure. In the meantime, see Theophilus Chin‘s F30 BMW M3 rendering here, the BMW M4-previewing 4 Series M Performance car here and spyshots of the high-performance duo here.
