When first unveiled, the 2014 Peugeot 308 interior was met with polarising views, with some lauding its sleek looks and simplicity while others had reservations on the large, do-it-all touchscreen interface.
We’ll reserve our judgement until we get to try it out for real, but for now, here’s a video of Gilles Vidal, Peugeot’s Director of Design explaining the new Volkswagen Golf rival’s interior layout and the thoughts behind it.
Ease of use is high on the design team’s list of priorities, as they intended the new 308 cabin to be as intuitive as possible to a wide range of customers. Called the Peugeot i-Cockpit, it features plenty of design highlights introduced to improve ergonomics.
Vidal explains the decision to use a small steering wheel, ‘reversed’ instrument cluster (speedometer spins clockwise, while the rev counter turns the opposite way, a la Aston Martin), and the minimalist dash with most available controls accessed through the touchscreen.
Some of elements of these new design features have already been implemented on the current Peugeot 208. If you haven’t already, do read our review of the standard 208 VTi here, as well the 200 hp 208 GTi which will be launched here soon. More info on the brand new 308 can be found here.

Just remember to do your job and shift the fuse box to the driver’s side when it comes to commonwealth countries, so that we can actually use the glove box. That’s all we are asking for.
this is what we call decent and global car.
you feel rewarding when sit in the car, not suffering.
Very nice interior, but exterior lack of “Peugeot” style like previous generation, which looking good now. New exterior looks like a KIA, because of the grill itself.
Can my Preve smoke this peace of shit?
piece*
Is that a reversed tacho meter? That’s confusing. We’ve been used to a clock wise dial but this has an anti clock wise dial for tacho meter.
Aston Martin have been doing that for a while now and one seems to complain about it…
idiots dont realize it’s hard to adjust the aircond without knowing where the buttons are since it’s all touch screen and the screen can show multiple things in multiple places.
traditional knobs can be memorized naturally since they dont go anywhere.
Hohhnny..,
