Ferrari 458 Speciale to debut at Frankfurt, hardcore version features 605 PS and active aerodynamics

Ferrari-458-Speciale-02

Ferrari has lifted the covers off a more hardcore version of its 458 range, now officially known as the Ferrari 458 Speciale. The special one joins the 458 Italia and 458 Spider in the line-up.

Power is up from the 570 PS in the 458 Italia to 605 PS in this new 458 Speciale, peaking at 9,000 rpm. Peak torque remains the same – 540 Nm at 6,000 rpm. The 4.5 litre V8 engine with direct injection remains normally aspirated. The 458 Speciale can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 3.0 seconds, while 0-200 km/h is completed in 9.1 seconds. It has a dry weight of 1,290 kg.

The 458 Speciale debuts new technology such as advanced active aerodynamics, which Ferrari says will eventually become a standard feature of all new Ferraris in the future.

There are front and rear movable aerodynamic flaps, which balance downforce and cut drag; Ferrari says the 458 Speciale is the most aerodynamically efficient production car in its history. Speciale also has the fastest response time (0.060 s) and highest lateral acceleration (1.33 g) ever achieved by a Ferrari road car.

Another new feature is Side Slip angle Control system (SSC), which algorithmically performs instant analysis of the car’s side slip, compares it with the target value and then optimises both torque management (via integration with F1-Trac traction control) and torque distribution between the two wheels (via integration with the E-Diff electronic differential).

How does all this tech translate to road performance? The 458 Speciale can lap Fiorano in 1 minute 23.5 seconds, which is 1.5 seconds quicker than the 458 Italia. That’s still slower than the 458 Challenge’s 1:16.5 though, but that’s a race car.

The 458 Speciale will debut at Frankfurt 2013.

    Cantiq.

BTW, no need to claim this claim that, the ultimate result is the most important one in supercar: being the fastest.

If u think that being the fastest is the most important result for a supercar, u’re wrong. Please study more for definition and technical purpose of supercar.
And what’s wrong with claiming this and that? Ever heard of ‘Marketing’?

  • The successor to the 430 Scuderia is finally here. 605 ps from a 4.5 NA engine is amazing. 134 ps per litre specific output surely is a new record for NA engine. Sadly, it going to cost around 3 mil here…

nice but i dont think its worth the premium u have to pay over a regular 458.the upgrades you get compared to the additional amount of money u have to add are simply not worth it

Why ‘Speciale’? Why not Stradale or ‘Scuderia’? Speciale sounds like something you’d order at a Ramly burger stand. Ferrari’s losing it with the names (e.g. Ferrari Laferrari) smh
