This is the Lexus concept car that’s set to be the highlight of the Japanese luxury carmaker’s Frankfurt 2013 stand. Other than the announcement that something will be shown together with the single teaser image above, nothing else was revealed.
We’re inclined to believe it’s most likely a near-production concept version of the Lexus RC (two-door Lexus IS) that we’ve sighted multiple times, courtesy of our Continental spies.
Compare it to the previously featured spy photo below and you’ll see the similarities – there’s the aggressive headlamps with separated daytime running lights similiar to that on the Lexus IS together with lines on the bonnet that run from the A-pillars to meet the edge of the spindle grille at the front.
Lexus also announced that it will showcase the Lexus GS 300h at Frankfurt, which will most likely share its technical bits with the Lexus IS 300h. That means a 2.5 litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine combined with an electric motor for a total system output of 223 PS. It isn’t a world debut though, as the car has already appeared at Shanghai 2013.
We reckon this model will probably make its debut in Malaysia eventually, since Lexus Malaysia decided to introduce its smaller sibling the IS 300h as well. However it won’t come cheap – because its engine is larger than 2.0 litres, it doesn’t qualify for tax exemptions.
It should, however, provide a more affordable alternative to the GS 450h that uses a larger 3.5 litre engine, which when combined with an electric motor, produces a total system output of 345 PS.
