Renault Initiale Paris concept – next-gen Espace?

The 2013 Frankfurt show is getting ready to open its doors. As you know, there’s absolutely no shortage of new metal on the stands, and adding to the long guest list is a new concept from Renault – reportedly called the Renault Initiale Paris concept – which the French carmaker teased last week.

Now, the first images have emerged. Stylish, but rather conservative for a concept – perhaps because it previews a production model that’s not too far away? After all, it was reported back in June that the successor to the Renault Espace, due next year, would be a crossover that combines MPV and SUV characteristics, and that a concept was coming to Frankfurt. This should be it, then.

At the time, Automotive News Europe reported that the production car will have high-end features in line with the French carmaker’s push to move its larger cars upmarket.

Autocar UK now says this will be done through a new ‘Initiale Paris’ luxury trim, which may spawn a sub-brand one day – yup, just like Citroen’s DS line. Additionally, it was said that this would be the first Renault to sit on the new Nissan-developed Common Module Family modular platform.

Dun tell me using 1.6 twin scroll turbo producing kejellion hp and torque that comparable to 2.0? Stop bullshitin users those figures excel only for acceleration and mid torque the most and servicing wise God knows how.My Peugeot 5008 1.6 can smoke any N/A 2.0 during take off but will run out of breathe when reaching 5, 600rpm above and service is always a bane extra costs. If ure looking city drive and cost saving for mpvs/cars that have adequate power go for something decent like low turbo else you can opt for twin scroll which maintenance is almost the same as bigger engines

Yes, the turbocharged engines run out of breath on the top end. But who on earth keeps driving at 6000 rpm? Typically cars like that have a 6th or 7th gear so they can be run at high speeds at relatively low RPM. I think in reality low end and mid torque is most important. Didn’t Proton’s CPS only have power at high RPM, and wasn’t that a big negative of that engine?

What’s the difference in servicing cost between a NA Peugeot and a turbocharged one? I’d be curious to find out.

Looks good, but that high window line will be a bummer for the kids. Can’t see nothing… that will be a boring ride then.
