Renault Kangoo Z.E. electric van – 10k units delivered

Renault recently celebrated the 10,000th registration of a Kangoo Z.E., Europe’s best-selling small electric van. The vehicle’s keys were handed over to Deutsche Bahn’s Gerhard Dech at the recent Frankfurt Motor Show. The vehicle will be used by German Railways’ maintenance division.

The Kangoo Z.E. also accounts for almost 10% of Kangoo van sales. It is also the best-selling electric vehicle in France where it has won over some 6,000 business customers. The Kangoo Z.E. is manufactured in Maubeuge alongside the regular Kangoo and is marketed in 20 European countries.

The Kangoo Z.E. is powered by a 44 kW electric motor (equivalent to 60 hp) that delivers its maximum torque of 226 Nm from rest. The motor is powered by a 22 kWh lithium-ion battery that provides an NEDC range of 170 km per charge.

Renault’s research indicates that 70% of van drivers cover a daily distance of less than 100 km. A ‘my Z.E. Connect’ pack allows owners to check their van’s battery charge and range status via smartphone or computer.

The zero-emissions LCV was restyled last June with a new front end and the incorporation of new features like Renault’s connected R-Link multimedia tablet.

The Kangoo Z.E. won’t be coming to Malaysia, but its sister, the Fluence Z.E. is already in town for trials, and will be launched in the near future. We’ve driven the electric sedan, and you can read about it here.

Cause a car like this is not bought for beauty reasons but for practical reasons. Black bumper means cheaper to fix, less likely to be scratched. Boxy design means can fit more stuff.

Besides, I don’t think it’s that ugly. At least the design isn’t boring, unlike some other makes…

Better use Extended EV. No charging stations here yet. Poor or reluctant in implementation here in Malaysia!
