Porsche Macan teased, to debut at the LA Motor Show

Porsche_Macan_teaser_2

We’ve seen plenty of spyshots of the upcoming Porsche Macan before, but the test mules have always been heavily dressed up with big brother Cayenne-like coveralls. These official teaser images released by Porsche itself, ahead of the Macan’s scheduled debut at the LA Auto Show next month, give us a peek at the baby SUV’s sleek looks.

As expected, the Macan will ape the Cayenne in appearance, albeit with proportions that are much lower and sportier. The third image below shows the SUV’s unique four-point LED DRLs that have so far been reserved for top-end Porsche models. Meanwhile, the taillights have a slim profile, similar to that of the Panamera Sport Turismo Concept.

Built on a shared platform with the next-generation Audi Q5, power will be sent to all four wheels through Porsche’s own double-clutch PDK transmission. The Macan will share less than 64% of its suspension bits with the Q5, sit 20 mm lower, and come exclusively with six-cylinder engines. There will be a Macan S powered by a 335 hp 3.0 litre twin-turbo V6, a Macan Turbo with a 394 hp 3.6 litre twin-turbo V6 and a Macan Diesel, which will use a 254 hp 3.0 litre turbodiesel V6. Steel springs will be standard, with the option for full air suspension. There are no plans for a four-cylinder Macan for now.

If you’re wondering about the name, apparently it’s derived from the Indonesian word for tiger, though its pronunciation has been Westernised. With close to 400 hp power output for the range-topping Turbo, the Macan will eat most non-Porsches for breakfast. Macan, eat, get it? Oh nevermind.

They were gonna call it Harimau, but Proton threatened to sue as it might confuse people who wanna buy a Suprimau with a Porsche, eh?? Hahaha.

Names aside, this does look way better than the Q5, which I presume it shares a plank with, just as the Cayenne shares plank with VW Toureg & Audi Q7.

      It’s called ‘Branded’.
When you’re behind the wheel, you’ll be instantly recognised as ‘sporty, powerful, prestigious’, someone who enjoy the finer things in life.

A VW? Nah…not quite there yet.

First, Porsche is halfly owned by Volkswagen group, making it their second luxury brand besides Audi.

Second, it was still a pure European.

Third, yes, in Indonesia we call tigers as ‘Harimau’. but this is not the only one. We also use ‘Macan’ to call tigers. it is the adaptation from the real Javanese language with the same meaning. So both ‘Harimau’ and ‘Macan’ were true, legal and right as the Bahasa word for tigers.
