Mitsubishi has released the first images of the trio of concepts it will be unveiling at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show later this month. The Mitsubishi Concept GC-PHEV, Concept XR-PHEV and Concept AR were initially revealed in vague outline form earlier this month, with only the sketch of the GC-PHEV offering a hint of what to expect from the design studies, which the automaker says points to the development direction it’s set to take in the near future.
The Concept GC-PHEV is a full-size SUV that likely previews the next-gen Pajero, and the full-time 4WD offering features a front engine, rear-wheel drive layout plug-in hybrid EV (PHEV) system consisting of a supercharged 3.0 litre V6 mill paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, with a high-output motor and a high-capacity battery in attendance.
Also to be found on the Grand Cruiser is the company’s S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) integrated vehicle dynamic control system, as well as a host of wireless-based next-gen preventive safety and driver support technologies.
The Concept XR-PHEV, or Crossover Runner, is a next-gen compact SUV that will presumably offer a take of what the next ASX should shape up like. The front engine, front-wheel drive PHEV-equipped vehicle is powered by a 1.1 litre direct-injection turbocharged MIVEC lump and a lightweight, compact and high-efficiency motor.
Finally, the Concept AR, or Active Runabout, which should preview the next-gen Grandis. The automaker says that the compact MPV design study offers SUV maneuverability with MPV roominess. Shod with a lightweight mild hybrid system, it also utilises the 1.1 litre DI turbo unit for its powertrain.
All three vehicles will also showcase the company’s new collection of “e-Assist” active safety technologies, which includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision management and lane departure warning. Also featured, a failure/malfunction early-detection system, among other tech.

Argggh! The first concept is really ugly!
Normally the ugly one sure Proton wanna rebadge it…maybe as new Savvy
Where is our beloved Lan-Evo ?
As a preview to their future offering or their design language, I have mixed feeling. On one hand all of them have a very nice aggressive face heavily inspired from their mecha culture which I like and I find very destictively Japanese(square arch FTW). On the other hand all of them are weirdly proportion. The GC has a very weird D-pillar and what looks like a smaller rear wheel, the XR has a bulldog stance. The AR looks okay thou, and instead of saying it previews the next Grandis, I say it previews the revival of the Delica 4×4.
Overall, this is what I come to expect from a Japanese design, it’s not pretty. It’s weird and border lining stupid but unique in its own way.
there’s changes on the exterior but i bet interior would be the same plastic ew ewwww material.
the asx concept looks cool…but the pajero? a bit like a tonka toy…
that’s not a bad thing….as long no stupid gutless underpowered sedans
Nissan Juke copy cat detected.
When it comes to designs the Italians & the French are the best, although the Germans easily excels in engineering precision.
… my point is, the Japs are tasteless in terms of designs.
Mitsubishi motors, dont just dont show this photos ,do it now,,come on
