Ford Transit to be locally assembled in 2014 – fifth-gen model, two 2.2 litre Duratorq TDCI diesel variants

Ford may be busy getting ready for its big party at KLIMS13, but here’s some other news about the brand on the local front. The Ford Transit is set to go on sale in Malaysia next year, and it will be locally assembled – the company has announced that production of the vehicle is slated to begin early 2014 at Sime Darby’s Inokom facility in Kedah.

The Transit was sold here in the last decade in its fourth-gen guise – the upcoming introduction heralds a return to the light commercial segment in Malaysia for the Blue Oval.

Two variants of the Transit will be available locally, the 13-seat Window Van 370L and the Panel Van 350L, both in high roof form, powered by a 2.2 litre Duratorq TDCi engine. The turbodiesel is paired to a six-speed manual transmission, the VMT6, if the van comes in its front-wheel drive configuration. The oil burner has different states of output tune – we’re unlikely to get the 85 PS version, which leaves the 115 PS or high-output 140 PS form.

UPDATE: It’s confirmed that the Transit we’ll be getting is the outgoing fifth-gen V347, which will be replaced in other markets by the new sixth-generation model that features a more rounded face, as can be seen in the last two pix in the photoset below. As for pricing, indicators should come about as production gets closer to being underway.

Also famous as the Malaysian ambulance in the 1970’s. Very bad track record and always breaks down. Not reliable at all. Thats why they changed to Japanese ambulances later on.

The engine offered hopefully have impressive torque,
350Nm at least, flat from a lowish rpm.

Too bad it isn’t the 6th gen one… that looks better than the Alphard. Add some sound proofing and some nice OSIM massage chairs…
