SPIED: Suzuki Jimny on transporter – launch soon?

Suzuki Jimny spy 2

The Suzuki Jimny should finally be making its market debut soon, if the transporter load of green and silver JB43 examples spotted by Harvinder on the NKVE near Subang is any indication. The Jimny was first spied at JPJ Putrajaya undergoing type approval back in May, and was then previewed at the DRB-Hicom Autofest in June, but things have gone quiet since then.

The Jimny, which is equipped with a 1.3 litre M13AA four-pot petrol mill, is expected to be priced in the RM90k range when it debuts. Both five-speed manual and four-speed automatic transmission choices are reportedly available for the vehicle, which features a part-time 4WD system.

a practical long awaited 4wd for orang kampong…

    • If orang kampung need 4wd, they would go for double-cab pickup with more choices, power, cargo capacity, interior space and even comfort.
Pickups have come a long way in the past 10 years yet this Jimny seems still stuck in 90s. Don’t get me wrong: there will always be enthusiasts for the Jimny but it will not sell in big numbers.

      • can’t agree more. aiming @ rm90k, it takes a great deal of guts to choose this over hilux or navara, and to be ready to be a laughing stock among friends… if not a enthusiast, no way.

by the way i have a good old escudo.

Suzuki got bad RV. Buy a Suzuki only if you are very rich. Many Vitara owners cry to me because their cars become half price in just few months. Then don’t know what to do with paying off their loans when they trade in.

1.3 litre engine and priced at RM90k, but this car is no different than a Perodua Kembara?!

  • LOL, launch in Malaysia after 15 years debut in Japan.

And the price LMAO! even Nautica at RM80k can’t even survive for 2 years.

Who in his/her right mind would pay RM90k for a 3-door SUV that first came out in 1998???

    RM 90k for Jimmy?
Won’t the Hilux/Ranger/Triton/Navara/D-Max/Colorado be a better choice for this Jimmy??

At 90k you can already buy brand new 4×4 which is bigger and can carry more stuff or can buy a used jimny and mod it to the max……

    talk abour resale value ,
a fine sample of suzuki jimny 1985 is RM30k, and the demand is growing,
    http://www.mudah.my/Suzuki+Jimny+M+-23045319.htm

a long wheel base jimny 1997 is RM38k,
    http://www.mudah.my/Suzuki+Jimny+SJ413+Long+Wheel+Base-21320659.htm

average price for this little 4wd for year 1990 – 1997 is rm27k.

yup the demand is still strong even for a 20++ years car and the new price during that time was rm45-50k.

Dunno why the demand is still strong – its not strong like any other truck, the torque is low, ride is very bumpy and interior is very cramp.

wonder is there any 1985 toyota corolla still fetch at high price for used value like this little jimny

U will know the answer if you test drive 1 Jimny @ off road.

Simple enough: Short Wheelbase, allow much better handling at off road condition. Short wheelbase is too much of fun while speaking of handling.

Although it is hardly for me to afford this little 4X4, but at least it make jimny lover smiling.

Not worth every penny spent for this model. At 90k rather buy pure pick up. For lover it might be nice for them. But how many ppl will buy in Malaysia while tax from Gomen is high. 1.3 engine is really nonsense.

the price is high compare to other 4wd aka trucks? ..blame it on the different tax structure imposed on these vehicles..both are in different categories.

    it should be around rm50-60k.

Strictly for those after it’s off-road capability and toughness e.g. Construction companies ? Else there are better alternatives such as Ford Ecosport at that price range.

I drove a SJ410, when I first started off roading. It’s a tough little 4×4, and lots of fun. It’s also very bumpy, cramped, underpowered and prone to overheating. But then, those Jimnys were under RM40k then, can’t remember exactly. Fast forward to 2013, this ‘new generation’ Jimny could succeed with the right marketing and price strategy. I still love to own one – with the right pricing. Like most people here suggested – it would make sense (and cents) at RM50-60K. And that would be stretching it, compared to bigger and better equipped 4x4s. If as reported, priced at RM90K OTR, it will almost certainly follow the Perodua Nautica way – downhill!

org kampong pun tak tengok kereta ni. nak pakai untuk apa? tiada truck takkan nak masukkan getah kepingan dlm bonet. dgn 90k dh boleh beli ranger 2.2xl/hilux vnt standard/dmax 2.5/colorado 2.5/triton heavy duty 2.8 or even wingle 5 .25.

  • It’s a CBU, no “special” tax like double cabs. If double cab has NO special tax, it will cost near fortuner.
