Subaru WRX teased ahead of Los Angeles premiere

subaru-wrx-2015-teaser

Doesn’t it look angry. Teased here is the new Subaru WRX, a machine that we’ve spied testing in Europe (we’ve even got a video) and which will finally be unveiled in US-spec production form at next week’s LA Auto Show.

The latest reports speculate that power could come from a 2.5 litre four-cylinder engine that’s based on the Subaru BRZ‘s 2.0 litre boxer unit. We’re apparently looking at around 265 hp for the regular WRX, while the angrier STI could have over 300 hp at its disposal.

We can see ‘hawk-eye’ headlamps with C-shaped LED signatures, an unmissable bonnet scoop and an angular front splitter in the solitary teaser pic above, but our spyshots expose also a large handle-type rear spoiler, vents located aft of the front wheels, quad tailpipes and a rather prosaic four-door shape.

Not long now!

  • Won’t be much of a looker, as with all Subarus ever sincee the 360(with the exception of some Legacys generation). As with all Subarus, all that matters here is the performance, or more specifically the uniqueness of it, not much car at that price range can out-handle the Impreza with its 4wd+Boxer combo. It is the reason why Subarus grets a cult-like following from enthusiast in the US unlike the dying Evo.

Sadly the Lancer Evolution X will be the last of the Evos since Mitsubishi is focusing on EVs and more fuel efficient cars. No more the Red samurai vs the Blue ninja

Lets just hope the battle will go on and on shall we? Who knows Mitsubishi might bring it to the next level. Say a Hybrid Evo perhaps?

i disagree. while not pretty, subaru’s had a coolness to it. flashy wheelarches, frameless windows to name for example. this impreza just doesn’t look cool. thankfully, they are still sticking true to their ideology of 4wd and boxer.

  • i can’t resist to not mentioning evo name here, but i have a strong perception that this scoobie has a LOT of evo’s design cue..at least on the exterior. it’s bulkier.

It may be not the most beautiful car in the world, but it is distinctly Subaru… Subaru could do better design though while maintaining its own identity, I still think the best designed Subaru is 2003-2009 Legacy… Turbo + AWD + Boxer = Sweet combo. Not many cars on the road can match is performance vs price ratio…

  • Mitsubishi Lancer front design. Mazda 6 also copy this mitsu style.

the production version seems to have dumbed down most of the design coming from the concept. the concept version looks more pumped up and more solid, the ideal kind of WRX that every boys and girls dreamed of. the concept would likely to show that the future WRX is a split model from current impreza just like how nissan did with its skyline and GT-R.

from the spyshots, the three-quarter window on front doors really spoils it all. if subaru already planned to base its latest 2014 WRX from ongoing impreza sedan, why waste time on a ‘dummy’ car concept? why give us fans such high hopes and then torn apart our sweet dreams? why subaru why?
