The Infiniti Q50 has been launched in Japan as the Infiniti Skyline, and the car will begin rolling out to Nissan dealerships in Japan from February 2014.
Yes, the car has an Infiniti badge, but it will be sold at Nissan dealerships in Japan. The Skyline nameplate was used by Nissan with the previous-generation anyway, while Infiniti called it the G sedan.
Only one engine will be available in Japan – the 3.5 litre V6 mated to an electric motor for a maximum power of 364 PS. Interestingly, the previous-generation V36 Skyline will continue to be sold in three grades – 250 GT, 250 Type S and 250GT FOUR.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Japs are very confusing when differentiating their products. Toyota/Lexus (Harrier), Nissan/Infiniti.
Have you even seen VW mix models with Audi? BMW with Porsche? Jaguar with Range Rover? Even Proton with Lotus?
Rebadged rebadged rebadge… prffftth
I read on wiki that skyline was originally invented as the top line car for nissan. So maybe they are trying to go back to its root.
The name… Sounds epic. “Infiniti” + “Skyline”. Try saying it together with some epic music from Two Steps From Hell playing in the background :)
why so surprised. the infiniti 3 series has always been a skyline.
Apparently in Japan it’s going to be called just Skyline. Not Nissan Skyline, not Infiniti Skyline. Just Skyline. Notice there’s no Infiniti badge at the rear. Supposedly they’re making it a separate entity in Japan to cash in on its royal connection as a former nameplate of Prince Motors, which provided cars to the Japanese royal family prior to its merger with Nissan.
