VIDEO: Lexus Remote Touch Interface in action

Lexus debuts a new version of their Lexus Remote Touch interface with the new Lexus RC Coupe. This is the third version of driver input system that Lexus has implemented in their cars. They started with a touch screen interface and moved on to Lexus Remote Touch – a joystick-like controller which you use to control a pointer on the screen like a mouse.

The second generation Lexus Remote Touch uses a touchpad accompanied by four hardware buttons – home, menu, up and down. The video shows a driver operating the touchpad, although it isn’t very descriptive in the sense that it doesn’t show what the driver’s inputs do to the infotainment screen. It seems you can move your finger around to control a pointer as well as perform swipe actions.

  • Looks like a commercial for a Wacom teblet. Anyways, after watching many reviews of recent Lexuses and sat in the new IS and GS, Lexus downfall in the interior department have always been that jerky Joypad system, I don’t need to actually use it to tell I will be frustrated to it….and there is no home button. Hopefully this new Touch system will solve it, have to leave it for the reporters to see weather it really is an improvement or not.

PS: can’t see a back button, but there is at least home button.

  • lexus probably get the worst touch/interaction system among the top luxury car manufacture.

the current joy-stick like system is just not suitable for driving. there is a big difference between a GUI and an interactive input. how the hell one can concentrate on driving when the system is like a mouse-click system.

they should use some direct input, with simple method. not making it so distracting until user need to take their eyes away from the road.
