You’ve probably seen the images that Mitsubishi Motors Corp released a few weeks prior to the Tokyo Motor Show 2013. Well now the Three Diamond has officially unveiled all three models accompanied by more information. Whoopee!
We’ll start with the biggest of the lot – the Mitsubishi Concept GC-PHEV is a full-time 4WD SUV that employs the FR-layout PHEV powertrain to gain movement. It measures 4,930 mm from nose to tail, 1,980mm from ground to roof and is 1,940 mm wide, making it a full-size SUV that only sits four.
The GC stands for Grand Cruiser and is said to have outstanding all-terrain performance handling and vehicle stability. Under the bonnet is a 250 PS 3.0-litre V6 MIVEC engine mated to an 8-speed automatic, assisted by a 70 kW output electric motor. Electricity is drawn from a 12 kWh battery.
Interestingly, 100V AC on-board socket can output up to 1,500 watt of electricity power up camping equipment and domestic appliances. The system can supply the equivalent of a day’s power consumption in an average household and up to 13 days worth of supply on a full charge.
Another special feature of the Grand Cruiser is its AR Windshield, where AR stands for Augmented Reality. The system allows the driver to absorb vehicle information without taking his eyes off the road. Information projected includes Satnav-linked Route Guidance, Active safety system-linked Distance to Vehicle in Front, Lane Departure Warning, Caution Tracking information that alerts the driver about vehicles or pedestrian approaching from blind spots at junctions. This also conveniently list some of the more salient safety features of the GC.
Splitting the car right down the interior’s middle is the Tactical Table. Nothing ballistic nor destructive, it actually connects driver and passenger to the vehicle via the smartphone with the touchscreen panel. So one can actually gather, create and share trip information on board.

What’s really jaw-dropping is the interior design of the vehicle. All those interface screens, and the tactical table is absolutely stunning. Only thing left is for this vehicle to be able to fly! From a humble digital artist – great work from Mitsubishi!
