Suzuki ET4D Concept – new-gen personal mobility EV

Suzuki’s world debut concepts of the four-wheeled variety at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show weren’t just limited to the Crosshiker, X-Lander and Hustler/Hustler Coupe. There was also the ET4D Concept, the cute critter you see here. It’s small, which is likely why I and the other guys missed it completely.

It’s not a road-going vehicle in the true sense – sure, you can travel 33 km on a single charge with it, but at a forward speed of between two and six kilometres per hour (and two in reverse), it’s not exactly a blazing saddle.

The ET4D is actually a design study of a next-gen personal mobility EV for senior folk to zap around in. Measuring in at 1,190 mm long, 650 mm wide and 1,080 mm tall, the 100 kg EV offers its user short haul mobility, perfect for daily grocery runs or a trip down to the bank. Well, at least in Japan, that is.

It features a 25 litre front basket to tuck the shopping away, and ease of use is the focus – aside from the large and simple operation buttons and switchgear, there’s also voice guidance and an angle indicator lamp to aid the user. Easy-to-hold handle grips aid mounting/dismounting the vehicle, always a good thing.
