Chevrolet Sonic RS sedan and Sonic Dusk make debut

2014-Chevrolet-SonicRS-026

Chevrolet recently announced two new sedan additions to the US Sonic lineup in 2014 – the RS and Dusk.

The Sonic RS sedan joins the RS hatchback in the lineup and is powered by the Ecotec 1.4L turbo engine with 138 hp and 200 Nm of torque. Unique transmission gearing in the six-speed manual, or a 3.53 final drive ratio for automatic-equipped models, along with a sport-tuned suspension and lowered ride height, enhances the car’s performance.

One of the most obvious and dramatic Sonic RS cues is its front fascia, which has a deep air dam design. Vertical intakes at the edges of the fascia reinforce a wide look and house the fog lamps. Interior refinements include aluminum sport pedals and a sport three-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel with contrasting stitch and flat-bottom design. The package is completed by leather front bucket seats with red RS accents.

The black car is the Sonic Dusk, first shown as a concept at the 2011 SEMA Show. Also powered by the 138 hp Ecotec turbo, unique exterior appointments include a ground effects package, rear spoiler, 18-inch aluminium wheels and four-wheel disc brakes – unique to Dusk and RS.

The Dusk comes exclusively in Ashen Grey Metallic, with a matte appearance on the upper and lower grilles, door handle inserts and rear license plate trim. Stainless steel lower window mouldings act as accents. Inside are Jet Black leather seats with suede microfibre accents and Mojave tan inserts.

Also new for 2014 are Chevrolet Performance parts that enhance handling, braking and performance. They include a 1.4L Turbo Stage Kit with high-flow exhaust (adds 10 hp and 20 Nm), cold-air induction, suspension kit with lowered ride height, brake package with Wilwood front calipers and an 18-inch wheel/tyre package. These parts will join styling accessories announced this year.

The Sonic was launched in Malaysia a year ago, and there’s a current promotion for the B-segment car.

In Malaysia, 1 word should be enough for this car: flop.

I drove the normal 1.8 litre engine in San Francisco. It was not bad. Spacious, visibility is good. I like the digital metre. FE was like 30mpg about 7 L/km and I was feathering the throttle. Kinda hard to be sold here…. but its not totally bad…

This car priced similarly with Vios (Yaris) in US, and Vios is so inferior compare to Sonic.

I’ve driven Sonic for some time in Texas. It has 6 speed auto and manual mode, 1.8L engine, solid body, well balanced suspension for touge. FC is good too, full tank just 30usd (3usd per gallon), can last ~300 miles with a mix of highway and city driving.

Vios? u guys know what crap it has inside.

Ecotec 1.4L turbo engine with 138 hp and 200 Nm of torque. Six-speed manual. Malaysia should get this version.

Chevrolet makes good and tough cars. It’s totally underrated in Malaysia which is sad. Built quality, handling, safety ratings are all excellent for the asking price. Value for money continental vehicle. Not for those with primary intent of Resale Value. They should go for the well known brands that makes lesser cars only for 3rd world countries. After all, life is cheap and money is everything.
