The W222 Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been declared the first ever China Car of the Year by the Chief Editors’ Club, a group comprising 10 editors-in-chief from some of China’s top motoring publications. The China Car Awards were presented at a ceremony during the just-concluded Guangzhou Auto Show.

On hand to receive the prize was Mercedes-Benz China CEO Nicholas Speeks, who stated that “the decision reaffirms the model’s stature and position in China, its top market worldwide.”

The luxury sedan beat 53 other hopefuls to the 2014 China COTY title with a total of 94 points, ahead of the Range Rover (53 points) and the Chang’an Ford Mondeo (43 points).

To be eligible for the awards, the candidates must be on sale in China during the period beginning October 1, 2012 and ending September 30, 2013.

The jurors observed that “there’s no other car like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class: it’s not only setting the benchmark for the industry, but it also embodies the peak of modern cars in this era.”

Elsewhere, the Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid bagged China Green Car of the Year, while the China Design Car of the Year was won by the Chang’an PSA DS5. The title of China Performance Car of the Year went to the Porsche 918 Spyder. Click here to see the full China Car Awards results.

Chinaman from China, sit in S class also but still spit everywhere and dig their nose and role the bugger to glory before pasting it under the table.

Hope people in China learn to be clean first, then talk about using S class and all that.

    • Typical Malaysia, only good at criticize others but good for nothing.
Go to China and see it yourself their river compare to ours, and see how clean is their road compare to ours which full of rubbish appeared once the tall grass is cut.

Are you joking. Gone to Beijing. Its so filthy. Streets full of rubbish and even the air is full of smoke all the time. Full of corruption and now laws allow smoke and pollution to be there 24 hours. The toilets are filthy. Maybe you go to 5 star hotel.

    • Not every Chinaman are like what you just said, they have slowly improved but no doubt there still minority who do that, just like Malaysian – people living in Kampung still practice open burning!! and to me thats doesn’t make any different to people in china like what you mentioned.

  • What suprise me more than anything else is for a Lexus ES300h to be on the winning board, considering the current political and social mindset of the Chinese mainland in mind.

Other than that, I do hope China vote some locals or cars that are at least accesable to their general public, I mean looking at the given list, i only can spot the two Fords being at least within a dream-able reach of the majority of the market. This feels more like a Dubai or Monaco COTY than a China’s. I mean seriously, a 918?

I do understand that Golf is a really good car but Camry?? I verified and it’s true! Does it means Korean car are so bad that Camry are the best car in Korea?

The China that hate Japanese is like local hate Vios. No matter how much you see on the internet that hate it, it still very welcoming outside the net. And I do realize the people over there hate everything! Some of them hate American, they say buy a Ford is building a missile to attack China. Some anti Korean, they say Samsung, Galaxy Series are plastic, just like their girl. Some hate Chinese goods, especially their car and electronic, especially Lenovo. A China brand that build in China is more expensive than export to America. Some even hate those Japanese haters, say they are fake patriotism.

They haven’t tested new camry yet. Otherwise it would easily dethrone the overpriced s-class.

See, K5 owners are so darn dumb that they can’t even compare apple with apple.

Firstly, Camry is D-Segment whilst S-Class is Luxury D-Segment

As a responsible citizen, it it my duty to inform this tai lan ngong sorhai that the comparator is Lexus LS range.

Suppose i need to remind this sorhai that kimchis are comparable with India and China made cars

S-class is Full size luxury sedan la or F-segment sohai imposter. But camry is so capable it can challenge and beat the s-class…just like how a mighty b-segment vios TRD can easily beat a C-segment cerato K3 or D-segment K5 optima.
