Lambo Gallardo successor to be called Huracan?

According to a report by Auto Express, the successor to the Lamborghini Gallardo will be called Huracan, instead of Cabrera as widely speculated. The name Huracan, which is Spanish for ‘hurricane’, was trademarked by the Italian carmaker in April 2012, along with Urus, which was used for the super-SUV shown at the 2012 Beijing show.

The sequel to the Gallardo could draw around 600 hp from an updated version of the current 5.2 litre V10. The engine could be connected to either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed twin-clutch auto, says the British publication.

Additionally, the car is set to share a new aluminium spaceframe platform with the next-gen Audi R8. There should be lots of carbon fibre as well; that should help it do 0-100 km/h in the low threes. Top speed should be in excess of 320 km/h.

You’ve seen spyshots, but for a less-camouflaged idea of what the new car could look like, look no further than the Sesto Elemento concept (pictured above), which debuted in 2010. Lambo’s ‘Hexagon Project‘ teaser microsite shows an Aventador-style flip-up-and-press push start button, and will play a short burst of the engine sound – but only if you share it on Facebook first.

The Huracan – if indeed it is so named – will go into production in the new year before the wraps are officially cast aside at the Geneva show in March. Recently, the 14,022th and last Gallardo left the Sant’Agata factory gates – no other Lambo has so far enjoyed a more numerous production run.

I actually think the name Cabrera rolls more easily off the tongue – well my tongue, anyway. Which do you prefer – Huracan or Cabrera?

  • ‘no other Lambo has so far enjoyed a longer production run.’

Sorry Jonathan, but correct me if I’am wrong, the Gallardo was produced from 2003(with the 2004 model year)up until 2013, a total of 10 years. But you’re forgetting the Diablo, produced 1990-2001(11 years, hey its only 1 year more) and the infamous Countach, produced 1974-1990(A whopping 16 Years!)

Unless you’re meant to say is no other Lambo has so far been produced this many?

The design and features mentioned for this car are awesome and it deserves the name Huracan, as it has every feature in it with depicts its speed and quality.
