It’s called the Zenos E10, and the two-seater sports car from new player Zenos Cars is set to make its official debut at the Autosport International show in Birminghham next month.
The E10 is touted as a track focused, yet road legal vehicle, one that promises lots of thrills based on the specifications alone – the open-top, step-in, two-seater is propelled by a mid-mounted 2.0 litre Ford engine with 200 hp on tap. With a kerb weight of only 650 kg, that translates to a power-to-weight ratio of 300 hp per ton; Zenos says the car will get to 100 km/h from standstill in under five seconds.
Beneath a body which consists of 18 panels, a single, aluminium extrusion ‘backbone’ spans the length of the car, and this is accompanied by an aluminium rear sub frame and a safety cell incorporating twin roll hoops and side-impact protection.
Both driver and passenger sit either side of the spine in an integrated carbon composite monocoque, constructed from recycled carbon fibre as a skin with a thermoplastic core, which the company says is not only a lightweight and strong solution, but also a cost-effective one.
The E10 is due to enter series production in late 2014, with first customer deliveries expected to begin in the first quarter of 2015. The company says that two further models are in the pipeline in the next five years – a Roadster called Project E11 and a GT Coupe tagged Project E12. They’ll be based on the same chassis architecture as the E10.
The men behind Zenos Cars, which takes its name from a combination of ‘zen’ to represent purity, and ‘os’, which in Latin loosely tranlates to ‘vertebra’, are former Caterham Cars CEO Ansar Ali and COO Mark Edwards; both were also in Lotus previously.
