BMW 4-Series Gran Coupe patent filings uncovered

bmw-4gc-patent-front

These patent drawings reveal what the upcoming third bodystyle of the BMW 4-Series will look like. This four door ‘GranCoupe’ will be joining the already unveiled coupe and convertible variants.

We’ve already seen revealing spyshots of both the Sport Line and M Sport versions of the 4-Series GranCoupe being tested so how it looks like isn’t really a surprise.

We now have an incredible amount of four door BMWs in the same segment. There’s the four door 3-Series, a slightly larger 3-Series GT, and now a 4-Series Gran Coupe.

Unlike the greater differentiation between the 5-Series and the 6-Series Gran Coupe where the two models have completely different interiors, BMW rather lazily chose to gave every single 3-er and 4-er the exact same interior. Will the 4-Series Gran Coupe be special enough to differentiate it from the 3-Series sedan?

4 series is the 2 door version of 3 series
4 door version of 4 series is called GranCoupe. Did I get it right?

Thats like making a 2 door version of a 4 door car and making it a 4 door version again

In other words, they are too lazy and stingy to produce new design, at least something fresh rather than chop here chop there paste here paste there.

BMW should close shop. Nuff said.

for niche market only, people who buy 4 series gran coupe think 3 series is too mainstream for them

Sort of like an Audi A5 sportback version. But Audi does not have an A4 4 coupe to clash with the AS sportback. BMW on the other hand has a 3 series GT. So, wouldnt this sort of clash with it? Weird thinking by BMW.

The 3-Series GT is not meant to compete the A5 Sportback. The 3GT and 5GT is on their own category while A5 Sportback and the 4-Series GranCoupe is meant to be on the same category. If I’m right the 3GT and 5GT is called PAV. But yeah the 3GT isn’t meant for a A5 Sportback rival.

Audi A4 Vario is a 4 door coupe meant to fight the 3GT. Now the 4GC will fight the A5 SportBack. 3GT is in the Progressive Activity Vehicle, or PAV. Just hope the M4 GC comes out, though

its weird cause the 3GT would then be like the taller version of the 4GC, if they have the same interior.

But somehow, the GC versions always looked so much better than the GT. The 6GC for me is the most beautiful model, after then 3 series sedan (in Melbourne Red) in the current lineup.

the new c class is more attractive..

when bwm did a lot of models with similar design, its like a china made when thing is easy to make.

a class has nailed 1 series kaw kaw..c class also nailed 3 series..

might as well they offer AT for even numbered(2,4,6) series, then MT for odd(1,3,5) numbered series, be it a coupe or sedan.
i wonder what else could they come out with.

    Cheers.

i think paul tan should go to bmw hq and spot quiz their employees by showing pictures of the series and asking their names. i think they would also be confused.
