Mysterious Renault testing – upcoming crossover?

Sometimes our spy photographers manage to snap cars that pretty much explain what they are even with the disguise, and sometimes they snap mules like this on test. Captured in northern Sweden, this appears to be some kind of Renault Fluence but with a higher ride height and a wider track.

Has Nissan been inspired by the success of the Nissan Qashqai? Could this be a new C-segment crossover based on the Megane? That would certain explain the higher ride height. Or could this be one of the upcoming Mitsubishi cars based on Renaults that was announced earlier? We’ll be back as soon as we have more news and spyshots of this prototype.

Is it just me or does it look cooler than the regular Fluence? Maybe it’s the environment…

I could imagine this as a rallye racer, think EVO, wider, meaner… though C segment crossover sounds more like it.

If it were a Mitsubishi… the next Lancer basically, why would it be raised?

Believe that the first ‘Nissan’ should read ‘Renault’…

Sometimes a car maker will use an existing car to test the underpinnings of a new car. i.e. there is a Porsche 911 that is mid engined. It was to become the Boxter, but this allowed them to test the Boxter without giving away how it will look like.
