2015 Subaru WRX STI to make official debut next week

2015_Subaru_WRX_STI_teaser

Get excited, boys (and girls?), the 2015 Subaru WRX STI will make its official debut next week at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), or better known as the 2014 Detroit Motor Show. The date to remember is January 14. Go ahead, mark your calendar.

Nothing much is known, with Subaru just issuing a short press release saying its “iconic performance flagship” will be introduced at next week’s show. Anything else would be pure speculation.

To be based on the standard Subaru WRX (the Impreza moniker has long been dropped for the high-performance offerings, and is used exclusively for the cooking family hatchback and sedan models), one would expect the more focussed STI to be dressed up in wider and more aggressive clothes.

The new WRX (pictured below) already boasts as much as 268 hp and 350 Nm of torque from a brand new 2.0 litre horizontally-opposed direct-injection turbo (DIT) Boxer engine. Could the new STI have over 300 hp? And while at it, here’s hoping it looks closer to last year’s gorgeous WRX concept.

My Renault Megane will smoke this anytime. I remember a funny story 2 years back. A MyVi was trying to smoke me in Plus Highway but ended up hitting the railing….LMFAO.

Preve can still give a good fight to this car because Preve was Lotus tuned and was tested in the same test track as WRX….

    • There was a comment in an international site that compares the CLA45 AMG and WRX STI, and I’ll echo that comment.
Both cars are design and targeted for different types of people even thou their performance and how it is delivered(both cars have 2.0l-4 and delivery by means of 4wd). The CLA will be for the rich playboy who prefers style above all else while the WRX STI is for the enthusiast racer. The CLA driver will be the type that goes to party and shows off but never really drives it in anger in most situation while a WRX STI driver will probably be working and tweaking their cars in a garage, taking advantage of the HUGE and accessible aftermarket parts ability the market caters for the scooby and abuse the machine on an auto cross or rally tracks.

They both cater to different types of market even thou they are, on paper, very similar machines. But with the more narcissistic culture taking over the enthusiast culture, most will prefer the AMG.

I second whatever AVH said. There’s truth to what he said. I’ll take both cars though…..

Not CLA45. Is A class AMG A45 edition 1. CLA is for uncle.

        • They are both the same cars and same powertrain, just that one is a sedan and one is a hetchback. I was only refering to the CLA as it was the car chosen to compare in the international site as both cars are very similar(4 doors). The comparison with the A45 is still relevent as I will confidently assume buyers of that car is as what I describe as the buyer of the CLA45
