SPYSHOTS: Land Rover Freelander replacement

Spy-Shots of Cars

Say hello to the Land Rover Freelander replacement, seen here wearing its production body for the first time. Earlier spyshots showed the (not so) small Landie dressed in stretched Range Rover Evoque overalls. It’s noticeably longer than the current model, and could well offer seven seats.

This one is immediately recognisable as a new Freelander, what with its bulbous front end. Just that it won’t be called as such when it makes its debut sometime this year. Instead, it will be a part of Land Rover’s expanded Discovery family, as reported earlier.

In its latest form, the Discovery SUV already has its model designation written on its bonnet, in place of the usual Land Rover branding. This smaller model will fit below the so-called flagship Discovery, perhaps with a new suffix a la the Range Rover Sport and Range Rover Evoque.

Placed between the luxurious Range Rover family and tough new Defender range (much later), Discovery models will form the meat of Land Rover’s offerings, filling out the middle ground nicely with multiple bodystyles based on two different platforms (the larger off-road-biased one and this Evoque-derived underpinnings).

On a side note, if you’re in the market for a new Land Rover now, you can get the current Range Rover, Discovery 4, Evoque or Freelander 2 with discounts of up to RM150,000 this weekend. More details on the upcoming Land Rover sales carnival here.

Wait, if its now in the Discovery family that means a big price hike comparing to the current Freelander?
