Qoros 3 Hatchback – first photos, Geneva 2014 debut

qoros-3-hatch-1

Here are the first two photos of the Qoros brand’s second production model that was teased earlier, the C-segment Qoros 3 hatchback. Essentially a hatchback version of the Qoros 3 Sedan, it will debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show in March this year.

There are visual changes to the front to differentiate it from the sedan – it has a new front grille, front bumper and fog lamps to create a bolder look for the face. On the rear, other than the obvious hatchback tailgate instead of a sedan boot, there is a new tail lamp design.

qoros-3-hatch-2

The Qoros 3 hatch will also get an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system called Qoros MMH. It supports multi-touch control. Optional is QorosQloud, which delivers a comprehensive suite of free-for-life services with 3G connectivity, including vehicle monitoring, social networking and enhanced navigation.

Under the hood is the same engine range as the sedan – 1.6-litre naturally-aspirated and turbocharged engines and six-speed manual and dual-clutch automatic transmissions.

  • Before you bashers say that China cars are now better than Proton, think again. Qoros is half Chinese, half Israeli. Proton is 90% Malaysian, 10% Lotus. Qoros is not a true Chinese effort, China still hasn’t ‘arrived’ yet. Give them a few more years and they will, of course.

    So please think before bashing.

What’s the point of hiring a Malaysian designer if we don’t have the requisite expertise in car designing? If the europeans have the relevant expertise, just hire them – at least they can help to groom a team of competent local designers during their tenure with the company!

IMHO, Proton is a lost cause, at the expense of the rakyat.

To develop an entirely Malaysian Perdana would be idiotic. Sales figures would never, ever justify the expenditure. Other, way bigger car makers wouldn’t so that either, unless they want to show off what they can do. Like VW with the Veyron. (They did something stupid and developed the Phaeton, which I’d say was a flop). Typically if they want to extend/fill a segment with not big enough sales/too little expertise in that area they will rebadge too. Even Mercedes. Even the Japs.

Design is subjective. Love it or hate it. But then I bet that if this car has smaller wheel arch & smaller wheels, it would not look as handsome at it currently is with 18 inch wheels.

Proton’s exterior design is already good, except that they have to polish the interior design and fit & finish.

Aaah people have already started to judge & compare this with Preve, while even journalists have neither drive nor gave any verdict about this car. By the looks, it is definitely handsome due to those 18 inch wheels & balanced proportion. But, does it handle & rides well? Reliability, interior fit & finish? fuel economy?

I reserve my judgement until some expert journalists rate this car. Malaysian motoring followers are pretty divided: Perodua fanboys kutuk Preve, Proton fanboys kutuk Vios, arrogant SamLoo & Toyota fanboys kutuk Kimchi, Japs fanboys kutuk VWs/Pugs etcs. Stereotyping & halo effect. In our country, no car is miles better than the other within the same segment. Tepuk dada, tanya selera.
