2015 Lincoln Navigator unveiled, gets EcoBoost V6

While America’s full-size luxury market welcomed the all-new fourth-generation Cadillac Escalade last year, its only major rival, the Lincoln Navigator, soldiers on with a minor facelift instead. The third-generation Navigator has been around since 2007, and is based on the previous-generation Ford F-150 pick-up truck.

New on the 2015 Lincoln Navigator are the redesigned exterior, mildly refreshed interior, more powerful engine and updated luxury appointments. The most obvious change is the new front end, featuring a modern interpretation of Lincoln’s iconic split-wing grille. Elsewhere, it gets updated taillights and more chrome details.

As before, there’s a choice between standard (5,268 mm) and extended (5,646 mm) lengths. Both versions can sit up to eight adults, and the addition of fold-flat PowerFold third-row seats provide segment-leading cargo volume. It may be based on a truck, but the Navigator has independent rear suspension, linked to standard 20-inch wheels (22-inch items are a cost option).

Like the F-150 before it, Ford’s twin-turbocharged 3.5 litre EcoBoost V6 engine replaces the old model’s 5.4 litre V8 lump. The new direct-injection engine delivers at least 370 hp and 585 Nm of torque to the rear wheels (four-wheel drive system is optional), through a six-speed automatic transmission.

Electric power steering makes an appearance here, making low-speed manoeuvrings less labourious. Nivomat automatic self-levelling suspension is also fitted as standard. Available as an extra is Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD), which offers three driving modes: Normal, Sport and Comfort.

    americans love their big vehicles. they wanted them to be ever more powerful and larger. why?
    1) comfort for a very long distance driving
    2) sleep inside them if they r homeless
    3) haul a very big and heavy load
    big is good. bigger is better. but big is, the best of all.
