Here’s a shocker (see what I did there?) – reader Syahrul Harun has sent us this picture of a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV being tested here in Malaysia. Looks like Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) is gearing up towards introducing the plug-in hybrid SUV here soon.
Last we heard, MMM announced that it was planning to launch the Outlander PHEV by the end of 2013, but various production delays – which has affected the model’s US debut too – put paid to that. While postponed, the plan is back in motion, it seems.
The rear badges may be taped-up, but there’s no hiding that this is the PHEV version of the Outlander – the clear LED taillamp, special machine-polished 18-inch aluminium wheels and “Plug-in Hybrid EV” logo see to that. Looks pretty sweet, doesn’t it?
This is no standard hybrid. Here, a 118 PS/186 Nm 2.0 litre MIVEC engine is tasked to assist the separate electric motors fitted to each axle, which are rated at 60 kW/195 Nm up front, and 60 kW/137 Nm round the back. Yes, you read that right, the electric motors are the main source of propulsion.
It has an all-electric range of 60 km powered by the batteries alone, or nearly 900 km with the internal combustion engine acting as a generator, feeding electricity to the motors. Want to know more about it? Read our test drive report here: Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Review.

wah, so canggih, can’t wait to see this car in the showroom! Plug-in EV means i don’t charge at home oso can right? I pump petrol only to charge the battery oso right?
Now this is a true EEV. Looks great too, in that colour. Hope it’s priced well.
@_@!
Wow.
Such hybrid.

Much range.
Plug-in.
Many tech.
Must be very expensive cz it won’t qualify for the eev incentives unless ckded in the future
Sadly it arrived after NAP. Sure the price will go up almost 200k.
No worries, after 3 yrs this model will be found in Proton.
The first part of the video is completely fake, but the incredible mileage (67km / L ?!) sure beats my Prius C by 3x, and to top it off, 900 km on a full tank ?! On a SUV with 4WD ?!
PHEV and a SUV, I am sold
Nice car.. bad timing.. thx to NAP.. puiihh.
