A microsite teasing the impending arrival of the Toyota Alphard has appeared on UMW Toyota’s website. The Toyota Alphard is yet another MPV model that along with the Estima, makes up the bread and butter of grey importers in Malaysia.
Both the 2.4 and 3.5 engine variants are teased on UMW Toyota’s website. The two variants are called 2.4 G and 3.5 G, a much simpler offering to dissect and pick from than the different X, G, GL, and other variants offered by grey importers.
The 2.4 litre engine does 168 hp and 224 Nm of torque, mated to a CVT gearbox with seven virtual ratios. The 3.5 litre engine makes 271 hp and 340 Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed Super ECT automatic transmission. There are disc brakes all round, MacPherson struts with stabiliser at the front and a torsion beam at the rear, and an EPS power steering system.
The UMW Toyota version of the Toyota Alphard has to be positioned above their Previa/Estima’s RM258k price tag, so it is more feature packed compared to the Estima. Appropriate for an MPV where you transport your precious family along, standard safety features include VSC stability control, seven airbags, and ISOFIX points in the second row.
Standard features across the two models include a seven-seater combination leather seat configuration in 2-2-3, an eight-speaker sound system with a seven-inch touch screen that has a reverse camera, dual powered sliding doors, triple-zone nano air conditioning, HID headlamps and rain sensors.
The driver seat is eight-way power adjustable, while the front passenger seat is four-way adjustable with a powered ottoman. The second row captain seats are power adjustable with powered ottoman and multi-support headrests (grey importers call these ‘Mickey Mouse’ headrests). The third row is split 50/50 with three headrests.
The 3.5 G model adds Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS) to the HID headlamps so they turn with your steering direction, and a power boot instead of a manual operated one on the 2.4 G.
Of course, these are whatever specs that we can see on the microsite for now. It might change. There are also no indicative prices for now. The 2.4 G should be priced higher than the RM258k Estima 2.4 for sure. We think the 3.5 G will be priced close to its only competitor in the market, the RM399k Nissan Elgrand 3.5.

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Sam Loo !!!! Where are you !!??
VSC, ohhh VSC, where are you?
The only UMW car with the right spec.
But never with the right price
dont be too sure, they might change everything to four speed gb, fabric seats, cassette player, and airbags and touch screen ICE as cost options.
Finally, something that was specced correctly. Price at least the 2.4 at like 270k, cause I see on oto.my the 2012 ones are coming in at about 270-280k at least, with similar kit for the 2.4. The 3.5V6 ones are almost 375k. So if UMW is smart, put the 2.4 at 270-280k. Then put the 3.5V6 at 380k or so. They will sell. Alphards have good reputation for comfort, plus considering these are brand new and 100% localised, people will buy them. Plus, compared to the empty Previa, this seems right.
Just don’t put 500k la.
dont worry..they wont put 500K….they will put ONLY RM499,999.98 otr..heheh
Must be 499999.97 or less, only then when you round up will be less than 500k. LOL.
So smart la u
Well…about time umw! Gdi
‘standard safety features include VSC stability control, seven airbags, and ISOFIX points in the second row.’
Hmmm Tempting…..currently the only large luxury MPV you can buy legallly is the rather awesome Nissan Elgrand(I do like the looks of that thou)at RM400k, so if Toyota can price it around there it should be competitive given that VeilFires are sold in the grey market for Half a Million a piece for a newer good condition one.
…Or you can save abit more(or maybe even waaaay more)for the new V-class but we still don’t weather MBM is bringing that in.
Seroously, a v-class? It is a manure. Interior materials and quality are much better in Japan MPVs.
Errr…. manure means cow dunk, I do hope you mean manor.
Anyways. If the V-class were to go on sale, it would be a little more pricey over a standard Alphard given that it is as you said, oozing with with Stuttguard finest materials and also bigger . Well than again both prices (UMW’s Alphard and V-class global) have not been confirm and knowing UMW, we may get another overprice Alphard.
Oh wait…I read that wrongly..
Personally, as far as quality goes, I have no problem siding the continentals for their quality. The orients still are rather trailing when it comes to quality….unless you are talking Lexus, Infiniti or Genesis range cars.
What’s the difference between veilfire and alphard? Other than the lights
Their name.
In japan they were sold separately through different distributor,or dealer. They are basically same chassis, but different parts ie doors. Veilfire caters to younger and sporty market, and Alphard caters to elegant and mature market. Price wise not much different(in Japan).
Elgrand cost 399K…this AllFat maybe 500K ?? Nevermind..as long Toyota olang beli maa….
hahaha this joke must price 300K per unit… so better take the ap car…
Is it confirmed that it’ll have ESC? UMW now famous for omitting ESC starting from Camry and Previa
Don’t forget Vios.
Top safety features as a standard I LIKE! But a bit to ex :/
I am so glad my prius from UMW got TRC, VSC, 7 air bags.
I don’t understand why UMW, after for so long, now suddenly interested in MPV territory. Are they trying to finish off remaining unused APs from govt from the past 2-3 years, or suddenly there is new ‘surplus’ APs created for certain cronies (including Honda Malaysia as well) after GE13? I believe this is something planned by both companies (HM & UMW) since they are they are non-national key players in Malaysia, which makes perfect sense in monopolistic environment competition against Bermaz and ETCM.
Anyhow, if my surplus AP theory is valid, i think UMW is wasting it because they should have bring in the new RAV-4 instead to compete with CR-V and CX-5.
Almost pointless to bring in RAV-4 now. CX-5 has already dominated this generation’s compact SUV segment.
However, JDM Odyssey likely will wipe the floor in its own segment.
im skeptical…ppl usually buy these because they are cheaper than a 7 series or s-class….if priced too high….nt gonna sell well…
I thought Alphard has been replaced by Vellfire? Hmm…
The Alphard vs Vellfire story is like Scion FR-S vs Toyota GT86. Alphard is supposedly the uncle version of this card and Vellfire the young-uncle version. It’s an odd marketing strategy since people buying this car is already in the uncle category. Maybe in Japan they do have this sort of market.
vellfire and alphard are same basically
Finally UMW is bringing in them brand new rather than the grey dealers bringing in the old Veilfire and Alphard with tampered mileage and people are buying them as if “new” …. with equally ridiculous pricing with fat margins thanks to APs.
Well let’s see what pricing UMW will be selling but looking at their Previa pricing … not gonna be great but what will they call to differentiate between grey dealers since Estima is called Previa by UMW
wow! im quite surprise! the only difference between 2.4 and 3.5 is the engine. the rest of the specs are entirely the same! great bargain for a 2.4!!
still a VAN hahah
The alphard, alto a premium MPV really looks like a boxy “koon choi chea”,don”t you car specialists see it?You still want to spend 400-500k on this mpv?For sure, some funeral specialists will place their orders soon.
Who cares? They can afford. But CLEARLY not you..
I’m a Honda salesman. Toyota Sure will put it near 300k. So don’t buy. If u want to buy, buy Honda Odyssey rm 228k! I can give u discount!
Don’t have money to buy! Rich poor man car….
