F56 MINI One and One D engine specs announced

The third-generation F56 MINI line-up was unveiled last year with just three engine options – the 136 hp/220 Nm 1.5 litre three-cylinder turbo for the Cooper, a 192 hp/280 Nm 2.0 litre turbo four for the Cooper S and a 116 hp/270 Nm 1.5 litre three-cylinder turbodiesel for the Cooper D. Now, we have confirmed specifications of the F56 MINI One and One D.

Forming the base of the third-generation MINI Hatch, the new One gets a brand new direct injection 1.2 litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine complete with fully variable valve control and variable camshaft control systems. It makes 102 hp between 4,250 and 6,000 rpm, and 180 Nm of torque from 1,400 to 4,000 rpm.

Performance figures read as such: 0-100 km/h in 9.9 seconds for the standard manual transmission (10.2 seconds with the six-speed automatic ‘box) and a top speed of 195 km/h. Fuel consumption is rated as low as 4.6 litres per 100 km, bettering the current MINI One 1.6’s 6.7 l/100 km, despite the increase in power and performance (from 98 hp/150 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 12.3 seconds and 179 km/h top speed).

The same goes for the upcoming One D. The new 1.5 litre turbodiesel engine gets variable turbine geometry technology, and develops 95 hp at 4,000 rpm and 220 Nm of torque at 1,496 rpm (yes, that exact revs). This one’s only available with a six-speed manual gearbox, and can get to 100 km/h in 11.0 seconds, reach a top speed of 190 km/h and use 3.4 litres of diesel per 100 km on average.

On the outside, the One and One D models get high-gloss black radiator grille ribs with black bumper strip, tailgate handle and wing mirrors to differentiate them from the Cooper models pictured here. The wheels are also downsized to 15-inch steel items with wheel covers (bigger alloys are optional).

The outgoing MINI One proved quite popular here in Malaysia, so expect this new model to be launched here in due time, along with the more upmarket F56 MINI Cooper and Cooper S models.
