New motor insurance tariffs from February 15, 2014

motor-car-insurance-rates-2013
2014-INSURANCE-NEW-TARIFF

Motor insurance rates have been revised upwards yearly since 2012, and the latest revision to the rates are set to come into effect February 15, 2014.

The second table from top lists the new rates, which are an increase of about the same range as the previous adjustment made on February 15, 2013, which is listed in the top-most table.

These yearly increases will continue until the planned detariffing of motor insurance premiums in 2016, when premium rates will be further differentiated in accordance to the individual risk profile of vehicles, owners, as well as potential pricing differences between insurers.

When the detariffing comes into effect, we might see the emergence of ‘full service’ insurers with higher rates but more perks such as complimentary tow truck service, as well as ‘budget no frills’ insurers.

This is all bullshit. To all the insurance companies, pls don’t pretend to be innocent. you all know damn well that every adjuster of yours is working hand in hand with the police, investigation officer and the car workshop to get kickbacks. I myself had many accidents. Infact the last accident I had I sent to my workshop, he said he will repair everything for RM1000. I thought, nevermind, I will send for insurance claim. After repairs and all that, I simply called the insurance company up to find out how much was the bill, it was shockingly RM8000. Yes, 8x the actual amount if I had the car repaired.

We all know what happens. The IO (Investigating Officer), the Adjuster, as well as the bengkel and the ulat ulat will get their kickback. Biggest kickback would be the adjuster. At least he makan few thousand for his personal pocket.

The Insurance companies know about all this. Hundreds of cases happen everday. But the close an eye. They pass the problem and burden to the consumer with higher premiums.

Bank Negara, please read the above. You also know about all this. But BNM just keeps quiet. You all just close an eye because the problem now goes back to the consumer with higher premiums.

With all this shit going on, last year, the Insurance industry dare to increase the car premiums for the motor industry.

That is Malaysia for you. The rakyat suffer the most because there is no proper enforcement.

Everybody suffers when everybody along the line gets kickbacks from the police office, the police cameraman, the adjuster, the bengkel and the runner boys (ulat ulat)

Yup, regarding adjusters, they do get a lot from workshops. Not so much comprehensive claims where the Insurance company appoints the adjusters – in this case the adjusters will side towards the insurance company and provide a lower estimate.
When appointed by the workshops, mostly for 3rd party claims, they provide really high estimates. Fake damages are included in the report.
        Eg:
        1. They bend the radiator/ac condenser coils and spray WD40 around the area and put it in the report as “pierced”
        2. Make a fine cut with a blade on tail lamps then cover the lines with chalk and report as “cracked”
        3. Lots of other tricks including a wire behind the windscreen to make it look cracked. They purposely crack/break headlamp mounting brackets and claim for a new headlamp even though they don’t replace it. They even remove certain parts where they can claim that it fell off during transportation etc.

Also, in the adjuster’s report, prices are quoted for original parts, but of course the parts that they use aren’t original. So their profit margin is really very high.

An average adjuster can easily make RM150 a day in “tips” without even trying. Free meals, free cigarettes.

Change is for the better, no matter how terrible the opposition is, i could guarantee they would never be as useless as our current government.

Btw, follow PR, 5 years, 95% Penang state debt decrease, Selangor, with cash surplus, Kelantan, not much wrong either. National debt; handled by Barang Naik, rose more than 100% for the last 5 years. Good job 47% minority government.

u forget to add RM10 for stamp duty… and minus 1 from the total amunt.. lets say car value is 100k.. 100k -1k = 99k… (i dun know the reason for 1k deductions from total sum insured but thats the way to calculate it)

        then 99k x 26 = 2574 + 261.65 (based on new 2014 1.4 comprehensive) = RM 2835.65 + rm 10 stamp duty = RM 2845.65 with 0 ncd

its because the rates listed there is for the first RM1,000 in value insured. then additional RM1,000 in value insured is RM26.

          that’s why 100k = 99kx26 * whatever listed.

Even i didn’t expect this to increase! Why? did they perfect the roads? did all traffic lights functional properly and timed equally? Did all the road holes been covered from time to time and not after a decade.

Many had voiced out the BR1M project was the cause for deficit and if the Government took the wrong steps, they should solve it themselves and not asking the public to repay their mistake by various rates and price increase.

And since the promise to lower car price is on its way and some have been implemented such as the Polo, there is a catch to it. The Polo parts are from India and not Europe! So its not a genuine price reduction.

As you can read from the table above, the insurance is based on the value of the car. In Malaysia, car value is already highly inflated due to the duties, taxes and AP. So here it the double vicious cycle, where Rakyat pay high premiums for highly taxed vehicles on top of the financing interest. BTW, there was an earlier article here about insurance companies paid out billions of RM to pay for insurance claims, but as with business accounting, please do inform the public transparently how much premiums directly and/or indirectly collected from rakyat since EVERY single vehicle in Malaysia be it a simple Kapchai to the biggest commercial trailers must pay insurance in order to get their road tax sticker to drive legally on Malaysia roads.

i dont know if the company transport insurance is also effected but if it do you will see an increase in the household things like you are mentioning. if we think back again the simple cycle of a to the market is factory -> distributor -> shop all has transportation cost, increase in any expenditure usually company will not absorb all of it (no company or taukeh wanna cut their profit right). This is IMHO.

To those whi said that the whole world price increase and we should also follow suit. Well, I was working in Singapore and came back to Malaysia since 2002.

I am pretty sure what is the cost of living in Singapore. A part from housing and car, prices for food, transport increase less than 40% since 2002. But in Malaysia, food prices have increased 100% and more.

If we talk about whole world price increase, my take is Malaysia has done so poorly that prices vs income is really unjustifiable.

What KPI that our gov done to measure their performance? If we talk about growth, what is the real growth?

There’s just spending too much time playing politics then growing the country. If that’s called a good gov, I am lost of words.

Everything seems to go up in the new year. What is happening? Petrol went up, now insurance for motor vehicles. When are these fellows whom the rakyat put them in power stop to think the burden they have loaded on the very voters who put them in power. There seems to be no stop in increasing of goods. Please have a thought for the ordinary people on the street.

The honest truth is – Bank Negara is toothless as the regulator. The general insurance industry is controlled by itself via PIAM. Even Bank Negara is scared of PIAM. Bank Negara pays more attention to the banking industry. Not enough good people are assigned to look after insurance industry surveillance and enforcement. Not enough data collected independently. Not enough analysis. They have no choice but to accept data given by the industry which is of course biased. Totally agree with comment at 3.25pm.

      Naik tak banyak RM12 ~ 23 ???

      Mai buat kira-kiraan:
      1 kereta – RM12
      100 kereta – RM1,200
      10000 kereta – RM120,000
      100000 kereta – RM1,200,000
      blah blah blah…

      Persoalan:
M’sia ada berapa buah kereta sebenarnya?

Saya pun x suka premium naik (siapa yg suka kan) tapi tak la sampai memaki hamun bagai…

    Tahu kah anda:-

    1) kali terakhir premium rate itu betul2 di kira sebelum 2012 adalah dlm tahun 1982 (saya ulang 1982)
    2) dah berkali kali
(dan bertahun tahun dah) premium baru ni ditangguhkan sebab tak nak susahkan rakyat
    3) yg paling banyak buat duit dgn overcharge repair adalah workshop kereta! Sebab kebanyakan dia orang ni gangster!
    5) ramai juga tuan punya kereta yg membuat demand utk buat untung dari claim (doa orang ni pun rakyat Malaysia)
    4) betapa susah dan BAHAYA staf insurance company dan BNM nak cuba kawal benda ni sebab deal ngan workshop dan “gangster”

Kalau tak tahu yg atas tu, boleh DUDUK DIAM.

    Tambahan:-

    1) nak pakai kereta ni bukan HAK kita, ia adalah PILIHAN
    2) naik RM20 setahun bising macam dah nak mampus esok lusa sebab jatuh miskin!
    3) tapi pergi minum kopi mahal RM15 selang sehari boleh, rasa macam dah cool dan manusia paling hebat..piiiraahhh

Maaf kalau saya kata macam ni, tapi saya malu bila ramai rakyat malaysia yg pandai ni buat2 bodoh.

Jadi janganlah memberi alasan jumlahnya kecil semata-mata.

        Salam RKG.

T kasih atas reply saudara. Saya ada byk lagi fakta nak letak tapi takut ramai kt sini pening.. Jadi saya minta maaf pasal x letak fakta tuan tu. saya pun tulis atas bukan berlandaskan orang kaya, fakta saya tu berlandaskan orang yg x berapa berada tapi berlagak mcm kaya, itu masalahnya.

Point saya yg utama ialah, kenapa bila susah sikit kita salahkan orang lain salahkan jiran la, salahkan bank la, salahkan kerajaan sampai keluar perkataan yg x senonoh.

Pasal harga kereta naik, betul tu RKG tapi itu yg pelik, makin harga naik, makin lak demand menjadi jadi, dan kalau ikut stats 3 bank terbesar negara, lebih 50%, terutamanya dari golongan sederhana ke bawah, menukar kereta setiap 4/5 tahun? Kenapa? Kaya sgt ka?…dan yg tak tukar kereta, habiskan beratus malah beribu RM bikin/modified kereta proton jadi ferrari…kenapa? So, itu salah orang lain ka?

Lagi kalau buat kenduri kendara, wahhh, kalau tak jemputan ribuan, makanan tak kehabisan, bunga telur tak berjuntaian, kalau tak kalahkan jiran sebelum nya….tak sah.

Saya bagi contoh tu bukan dari orang kaya tau, tengok la sendiri di kawasan kurang mewah, berapa byk kereta, kendurinya…bergolok bergadai. Saya z nak la cakap pasal HOBI yg tukar hp, mengalahkan CEO….

Saudara RGK.

        Fendy

  • There is no set price that car owners have to pay when it comes to car insurance. Each car insurance quote is individual and varies depending on a number of factors that the car insurance company/underwriter take into consideration.

To get to a final quote a range of different factors such as the following are used to calculate how much it will cost to insure the driver and the vehicle:

Age – Age is a big factor when it comes to car insurance. Younger drivers are more at risk of having an accident and needing to make a claim than older drivers who have more experience in driving.

Sex – Insurance quotes between male and females can vary. Young males car insurance is higher than a young females. This is because statistically young males are more likely to need to make a claim or have an accident than young females.

Where you live – Where you live and where your car is kept makes a significant difference to car insurance companies. Car insurance companies having a “post code rating” system where they can rate the area that a person lives in. This rating has a range from A to F. “A” being a good low risk crime area and an “F” being a high risk crime area.
Those living in an “A” rated post code area are likely to receive a lower car insurance quote than those living in an “F” rated post code area. This is because there may well be very little crime in the “A” rated post code area but in the “F” rated post code area car crime may be extremely common meaning that there is more likely that the car insurance company are going to need to pay out for theft.

Where Vehicle is Kept – Where a vehicle is kept/stored is another important factor. A car kept parked on a road that is then free for passers by to easily look into is at more risk than a car parked on a private driveway. A car parked in a garage is likely to be the most secure as it is then out of sight and also locked away making it harder for anyone to risk trying to steal it.

No Claims Bonus (NCB) – Drivers who have built up NCB can usually expect a reduction in their car insurance quote. NCB can be built up and are designed to reward good/careful drivers who do not make a claim on their insurance. The more NCB that a driver has the lower their car insurance premium is likely to be as the car insurance company rewards them for being a careful driver who do not cost the car insurance company money.

Previous accidents – If you have a history of making claims on your car insurance your premium is going to go up as you are likely to be “high risk” to the car insurance company. You will have to pay more for your car insurance as the car insurance company are taking more of a risk if you have a history or having to make claims for car accidents.

Type of Cover – There are 3 different types of car insurance cover.
Fully Comprehensive which provides cover for both an third parties involved in an accident and also yourself if the accident was your fault.
Third Party, Fire & Theft insurance offers protection only for third parties if you are the cause of the accident, it also pays out if your car is stolen or has a fire.
Third Party only insurance covers only any third parties if you are the cause of an accident and you will not be able to claim anything for your own car.

Vehicles Insurance Group: There are so many different vehicles out there offering so much choice in popularity/speed/cost each vehicle has an insurance group rating.
Smaller engined, lower cost cars such a a 1litre Fiesta will have a lower group insurance than faster more expensive car such as a Ferrari.
Insurance Groups range from 1 to 20. With a car in insurance group 1 being less to insure than a car in group 20 which will cost more to insure. So the higher the insurance group your car falls into the higher the insurance is likely to be.

So if you take all the above into consideration and look at a couple of examples.
A young male who drives a car with a high insurance group, lives in an “F” rated post code area who keeps his car on the road and has had a couple of previous accidents is going to have a very high car insurance quote. The quote is likely to be high even if the person only wants third party insurance too.
    On the other hand:
A middle aged female driving a mid-range group insurance car, living in an “A” rated post code area, parks the car in a garage at night, has no recent claims and has full No Clims Bonus will likely get a very competitive car insurance quote from every insurance company.
