Tata Bolt debuts in Delhi – hatchback version of Zest

Now that you’ve seen the sub-four metre Tata Zest sedan, here’s the hatchback version, the Tata Bolt, which has been unveiled alongside the Zest ahead of the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo.

The Tata Bolt is 3,825 mm long, 1,695 mm wide and 1,550 mm tall, making it 170 mm shorter and 20 mm lower than the Zest sedan. It sits on the same enhanced X1 platform, and shares its width and 2,470-mm wheelbase with the Zest, but is 26 kg lighter at 1,080 kg.

The Bolt and Zest are pretty much identical up to the rear doors. Unique to the Bolt are blacked-out C-pillars, upright tail lamps, a tailgate spoiler with integrated third brake lamp, and 15-inch alloys (Zest gets 16s).

The Tata Bolt gets the same new 1.2 litre Revotron four-cylinder turbo petrol (85 PS at 5,000 rpm/140 Nm between 1,750 and 3,000 rpm) as the Zest, but its 1.3 litre Quadrajet diesel produces 75 PS at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm of torque between 1,750 and 3,000 rpm (Zest 90 PS/200 Nm at the same revs).

The fact that the Zest diesel’s new five-speed F-Tronic AMT has not been announced for the Bolt must have something to do with it.

It seems then, that the Bolt is intended to be priced and positioned slightly below the Zest. However, it still gets the latter’s five-inch Harman touch-screen infotainment system, speed-sensitive electric power steering and projector headlamps.

not really a small car to wow about for me, though it’s decent enough, but the ad is a surprise. it’s definitely better than many ads of those small, budget cars in Asia region!

Hope Tata improve their safety features and not repeat the Nano’s No star ANCap achievement!

Nice car by Tata… wonder how much it’ll actually cost there… If it’s equipped with Traction Control and 6 airbags that would be much much better!!! Even their engine is revolutionary but i have doubts about the AMT gearbox though…

Most important thing is, How’s crash test result of this car? Nano is only getting 0 (zero) star. And why engine performance specs is so low? Tata 1.2 turbo engine produce power only 85 ps? Proton normally-aspirated 1.3 on saga sv much better power than this.

The Revotron engine is designed for a flat torque for city driving not highways. The engine will be very responsive for driving in city not highways.

Watch out for the next generation which is being designed from scratch at the Tata Motors European Design center at Warwickshire UK.
