Citroen C4 Cactus leaked, keeps concept car looks

Citroen_C4_Cactus_01

Here’s an early glimpse at the new Citroen C4 Cactus, the production version of the last year’s Frankfurt concept of the same name. These leaked photos have emerged online before the radical crossover’s official reveal tomorrow. As you can see, it looks very much like the earlier concept. Now this is how it should be done, Subaru.

All the prominent features of the concept – the split headlamps, ‘floating’ roof, upswept C-pillar, flat-dish wheels and 3D-effect rear lights – have been kept intact. Even bigger news is the inclusion of the show car’s Airbumps, essentially impact-absorbing soft air capsules to protect the body against minor bumps scratches.

The interior is as radical as the exterior. In here, you get a bench-style front seats and a minimalist dashboard with two LCD screens – one for the speedometer and the other an all-inclusive touch-screen multimedia display. Particularly interesting are the button-type gear selector and aircraft-style handbrake lever.

It’s hard to judge the vehicle’s actual size from these pictures, but the similarly proportioned concept measured 4,210 mm-long. That’s about the same as the Peugeot 2008 that has been launched here. Intrigued? We will have full details of the car very soon, so stay tuned.

Wait, they are going to build this? Balls. That’s what they have. Huge, giant balls. Not sure if this thing sells well, it stands out quite a bit. That’s how they want to differentiate from Peugeot and the rest I suppose, without having to rely on price alone.

Maybe it should have the airbags front and back too, in case you bump into another car while parking etc.

Balls yes. But its more to do with French quirkiness than anything. Citroen does have a knack for coming up with the weird and unique dating back all the way back to the original DS.

That said, Renault seems to have a bigger hit ratio of weird and the disastrous. Avantime, Vel Satis just to name 2.

Hm. Those two you mentioned… I like them, but sales was pretty poor. Then after that the Megane was another experiment, and it again didn’t live up to expectations. Since then they have been playing it safe. And it works for them.

So for Citroen to go completely bonkers… Hm. Yes they did do very non mainstream cars, but in the 90s and 00s they were extremely conservative and boring. But what the hell, why not. It could work, and at least it won’t canibalize Peugeot sales or DS sales (the DS4 pretty much looks like a C4 inside and out, it’s just more affordable).

Overall a futuristic and stylistic crossover, but the silhouette kinda reminds me another model? The Airbumps though it sounds good – “protect the body against minor bumps scratches”, imho could do away with it, I can imagine one without Airbumps that looks much sleeker.

    Citroen cars always look futuristic..
But at here, it just too expensive and hard to find service center.

  • Citroën has a history of making ever radical cars, the original DS, XM, SM and more recent C6. They still continue today with the DS5 and C4 gran picasso. But this, this is taking it to the extreme.

Personally as far as looks go, I can’t say it is good looking as it is unconventional, it dose not have any competitor I can mirror with and by that standard it stand out. The split headlights and rubber padding ‘air bumps'(I wish more cars has this, I mean my decades old Saga has a strip of it) are very cool and unique. Inside, the aircraft handbrake under the seat is not what u call practical, and so is cramming everything into the screen interface, but it’s sure is cool.

Overall, there are many cars launch recently that persue ever radical design to stand out, Lexus with their RC and IS range and BMW with their I-range. The closest car I can compare with this is the Nissan Juke as far as cost and size goes;both aren’t really good looking in my eyes but I’ll forgive that because both are just crazy and show stoping in their design. But only Citroën are doing this for their entire line up, excellent travail Citroën
