It isn’t just small sedans that are arriving in a big way in India – the compact crossover and SUV segments look to be on the rise too. The Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster may be paving things nicely, but more competitors are set to join the fray – at the ongoing Delhi Auto Expo 2014, Chevrolet offered its Adra, albeit in concept form, and the Fiat Punto Avventura made its world debut.
The Punto Avventura (or Adventure, if you will) is Fiat’s take on a small crossover based along Punto lines. The vehicle is very much a VW Cross Polo competitor – the show car’s shade is even reminiscent of that worn by the first Cross Polo (based on the fouth-gen Polo).
Plenty of plastic cladding to be found all around, with a rear-mounted spare wheel bulking the vehicle up further. To highlight the fact that this is targeted at those with an active, outdoorsy lifestyle, bicycles feature strongly in the Avventura display.
According to reports, the Avventura will be equipped with an 89 hp 1.3 litre MultiJet diesel, and tucking in at under four metres long, is set to enjoy the lower excise benefits given to sub-four metre vehicles.
