GM has launched the 2015 Chevrolet City Express van at the ongoing 2014 Chicago Auto Show. If it looks very familiar, yes, the City Express is a rebadged Nissan NV200, which Nissan is also pushing as a taxi in major cities.
The van is New York City’s Taxi of Tomorrow and the future London Black Cab. Spanish city Barcelona will be using a battery-powered version of the NV200. The Mitsubishi Delica D:3 is another rebadged NV200.
To go on sale this fall in the USA, the Chevrolet City Express offers 3,474 litres of customisable cargo space, a tight turning diameter of only 11.2 metres and an estimated payload capacity of 1,500 pounds (680 kg). Its cargo area measures 137 cm sidewall to sidewall, more than enough to load a standard pallet flat on the floor. The tops of the rear wheel houses are flat to enable tiered storage and to maximise storage space.
The City Express will deliver better efficiency than the regular full-sized van, thanks to its smaller size and 2.0 litre four-cylinder petrol engine, mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The DOHC CVVT unit is rated at 131 hp and 188 Nm.
The van is available in LS and LT trims. A technology package available on LT models includes a 5.8-inch diagonal touch screen, navigation, Sirius/XM Satellite Radio with a three-month trial period, Bluetooth, USB input and a rearview camera.
In Malaysia, Tan Chong sells the Nissan NV200 in Semi Panel and Panel Van forms, but not as the Evalia passenger van, although that seven-seater has been spotted in Malaysia before.

Public hate it because, proton is the cause prices of car in malaysia high in the first place. Despite locally made, the build quality sentiment from the past has frustated many Malaysians.
These build up frustation turns into emotion, which is anger. And after all this years suffering low quality build and high car prices, proton did not meet the expectation, of course people will be complaining. Poor customer service also do not help the situation.
We are all humans, who are bound to emotions, perspective and perception. One thing led to another, I wouldn’t blame the PROTON bashers either. If nobody shout it out loud, PROTON may not improve on their build and service quality.Now after all the sarcastic comments, criticism, PROTON now offered life time waranty for power window. THis will never happen if people just accept and keep quiet about it.
Other brands have no impact to Malaysians. Their price is way cheaper if there are lower duties and tax.
As for re-badge, Proton are doing it in car segment which they not have big market share. Which will be costly if they proceed.
But IMO, why not PROTON do what Hyundai and KIA did? It is a good move to improve majorly on car design. On the other hand, Proton’s engineering is quite good also aside from the engine and looks.
This way, Proton not only can attract locals, but also foreign segment. KIA started with Forte and that kickstarts everything. The sales is booming just with the look of the car (practicality, performance and everything aside). If they cannot have sustainable market, they can never invest to develop better car and RND for new market segment.
In the past, Top Gear bundles Korean car with Malaysians car. Now they are far ahead from where Proton is at the moment. I just hope Proton can be just as succesfull as any other car maker. Have to strategize on building car that people want to buy rather than what they can build for people to buy.
This strategy is proven, why not right?

It is interesting to see american interest in japanese minivan.once they were hostile to japanse minivan being boxy and small as they were used to huge van like ford transit.now they know that minivan can do the job with more versatility at lower cost.still cannot imagine new yorker and londoner will be driven in nv200 taxi while in malaysia it is used to carry bussiness loads or pasar malam van.they r plenty of great japanese minivan like serena noah but they end up with nv200.so if this nv200 rolled in malaysia as 7 seaters passenger vehicle there should be no shame about it.price surely about avanza or alza but with global standard.
i think Proton also rebadged…
