Mitsubishi will have three concept cars at the Geneva show in March, but none of them will be world debuts. The XR-PHEV, GC-PHEV and AR concepts were all displayed at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show.
The trio’s maiden appearance in the Continent is to give European customers a glimpse of MMC’s future plans. “With a clear emphasis on design, driving performance and low environmental impact, MMC will display its three latest concept cars – an “augmented reality” interpretation of things to come short to mid-term,” the press relase says.
The red XR-PHEV pictured on top is a coupe-like compact plug-in hybrid crossover. It uses a front-wheel-drive PHEV system including a 1.1 liter turbocharged MIVEC three-cylinder petrol engine.
The GC-PHEV on the other hand is a full-size plug-in hybrid SUV with full-time 4WD. Its front engine, rear-wheel-drive PHEV architecture includes a 3.0 V6 supercharged MIVEC petrol engine mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and a high-output motor to deliver all-terrain performance truly worthy of an all-round SUV, MMC says. Next-gen Pajero?
Lastly, the Concept AR previews a compact MPV which combines “SUV sportiness with MPV roominess.” It uses a lightweight mild hybrid belt-driven starter and generator system (BSG), which combines a 1.1L three-pot turbo with a low output BSG torque circuit with a 48V lithium-ion battery and DC-DC converter.
The cars may be concepts, but PHEV technology is already in production. We’ve tried it in the Outlander PHEV SUV, which was recently spotted testing in Malaysia.

Among them, the GC-PHEV is the ugliest! Yulks!
As if there’s not enough SUV’s…why need to launch so many at a time?!
What’s happening to EVO? Pls don’t tell me they’d really given up on better EVO’s!
Europe markets have some really cheap SUV’s that will out sell these models shown. Not sure will Mitsubishi be dissapointed.
