This is the Volkswagen Taigun Concept, and if it looks familiar, it’s because you’ve seen it before. First shown at Sao Paulo in October 2012, VW has further developed its B-segment SUV concept, wheeling it out for all to see at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo.
Wolfsburg says that the latest Taigun’s defining characteristics are its compact dimensions, spacious interior, an efficient high-tech engine and the exterior-mounted spare wheel.
The latter, which follows the Ford Ecosport, is new, while trim parts have been added to the side sills, wheel arches and bumpers to emphasise the SUV’s rugged character. LED spotlights on the roof rails add to the ‘adventure’ feel. Inside, the original blue theme has been replaced with orange highlights and matte anodised aluminium accents.
The four-seater is powered by a new 1.0 litre TSI engine with 110 PS and 175 Nm from 1,500 rpm. The downsized three-cylinder turbo engine is good for combined fuel consumption of 4.7 litres per 100 km and 110 g/km of CO2 emissions. Sounds like a good rival to Ford’s award-winning 1.0L Ecoboost, which we’ll get this year in the Fiesta.
With the amount of effort put into the Taigun, you can be sure that this concept is heading to production – we’ve already heard that it will debut in 2016. In any case, VW is already late to the B-segment SUV party, which has the Ford Ecosport, Peugeot 2008, Renault Captur, Opel/Vauxhall Mokka and pioneer Nissan Juke. Honda recently invited itself with the Vezel, which debut at last year’s Tokyo show.

Isn’t the Peugeot 2008 much bigger than this one? The 2008 looks like a competitor to the Tiguan in my eyes?
Pricewise, one is heaven and other earth.
Looks like kancil.on high heels…
What kinda name is this? TaiPow should be better, no?
Peugeot is bad financial shape. Watch Bloomberg or CNBC to hear the latest on China’s DongFeng buying a critical stake to salvage the company from huge losses
this is taigun, the bigger one is tiguan, the biggest one is touareg, hopefully there will not be another “T” in vw family….it’s rather confusing, especially the taigun and tiguan.
he story Volkswagen wants us to believe is that “the people” wanted Tiguan, a blend of the German words for tiger (Tiger) and iguana (Leguan). (It’s pronounced TEE-gwan.) After all, VW is using “The people want…” as a unifying tagline for all its models, no doubt to emphasize that Volkswagen means “people’s car.” For the Tiguan, a compact SUV introduced for the 2009 model year, the tagline is “The people want to play, but they want to play nice.” (Works best when you imagine it spoken with a German accent.)
Blowin’ in the Wind (Golf is German for “gulf,” as in “gulfstream”; Passat means “trade wind”; Jetta means “jet stream”); and Miscellaneous Weirdness That Probably Sounds Dandy in Deutsch. In the third category we find Tiguan as well as Sharan (from a Persian word meaning “carrier of kings”), Touran (from tour + Sharan), and Touareg (from the name of a nomadic North African tribe).
seriously, another external spare tyre? Be realistic man. VW is running out of ideas with straight and simple lines.. This one looks tired and dull, the only thing nice is the rear light clusters resembling Polo TSi.
whats wrong with spare tyre outside of the box….at least for the dummies they know where the spare tyre is rather than look inside the dashboard…your wife is one of them…
Ford Ecosport vs Taigun? Come on. Better mileage car will win in India.
