Honda Malaysia to introduce five new models in 2014

2014_Honda_5_new_models_ 02

Honda Malaysia will launch five new models this year. The five includes FMC (full model change) and MMC (minor model change) models and CKD hybrids locally assembled in Melaka. This was announced by Yoichiro Ueno, MD and CEO of Honda Malaysia at the company’s 2014 media gathering. He also gave away the fact that there will be two CKD FMC hybrid models in the list.

“We have laid the foundations to strengthen the company’s operations in order to elevate our business to the next level in terms of sales volume, market presence and branding. With the completion of the No.2 Line at our factory and new main models including CKD hybrid to be introduced this year, we believe that our strategies are in line with the current market situation where more people are longing for affordable, environmental friendly and good value for money vehicles,” Ueno said.

The Honda boss also said that two affordable models will be launched this year. The new City, now open for booking, is classified as such, and we can safely assume that the other one is the new Jazz, which will be introduced in the second half of 2014.

All these will contribute to the brand’s lofty sales target of 76,000 units in 2014, which is 47% higher than 2013 sales. Should they acheive 76k units, Honda will command 11% market share based on a projected TIV of 670,000 units. Of the total, Honda Malaysia is looking to sell 9,000 units of hybrid cars.

There’s a rumour Brio will be CKDed at Proton plant since Honda in Malaysia is a AJ with DRB_HICOM, it make sense. I wonder the price baracket? Rm50k area?

  • Good, good, Honda MY and ETCM Nissan, kindly beat the sh*t out of UMW Toyota in 2014, please.

Unlike UMW Toyota, Honda at least gives us better safety equipment as standard, and ETCM Nissan may sell below average cars, but at least they are reasonably priced.

It’s about time we had a new no.1 non-national leader in Malaysia.

  • STOP, stop, stop stop….
Before we move on to speculate new models, Honda Malaysia, theres some specs in the Accord and Civic that needs catching up to to its little bro the City. The City gets 6-airbags and an advance infotaiment we know of as well as rear seat vents. So the major looser here is the Civic, which gets almost none of these, in fact a top spec City triumps the Civic 2.0l Navi in every way but power and size….fix that first.

So basically, the two CKD model hybrid will be difficult to predict, but most likely it is to be the Civic Hybrid and the Insight hybrid as the 2 other hybrids ,the Accord and new Jazz ,are rather high tech for CKD. Unlike the Civic/(old)Jazz/CRZ hyrids, it is not an IMA system but a advance I-MMD 2 motor system for the Accord and a two motor, dual clutch for the (new)Jazz Hybrid, the CRZ are sold in too low volume to justify being CKD. But than again the Civic hybrid is already built in Thailand, is there any justification to open a 2nd assembly line just next door(well the political stability over there may be the trigger) and the global Insight production is about to be phased out soon, but seeing how Honda Malaysia willingly accept CKD-ing the old Jazz hybrid in its final years, it may just happen.

So including those with the City, the remaining cars will most likely be the new Jazz and Vezel(Which my SA says there is a high chance it would be brought in by the end of this year, the ICE-only version)

Malaysia probably will become largest producers of Hybrid vehicle in SEA and export all over SEA. Since Malaysia introduced EEV, others car makers will start producing EEV hopefully like diesel vehicle in Malaysia.

Cant wait for the new Jazz/Fit to arrive here. About the Civic, not too sure whether it will get the rear AC vents considering that no other 9G Civic from the FB model range (not including the Europe Civics) has a rear AC vent either. The US 2014 Civic (on which the Malaysian Civic is based on) has no rear AC vents. But it must be noted here that the US Civic is still not considered the facelift model, even though it is a major improvement over the Civic that went on sale in 2011 in the US. Perhaps the facelifted Civic might get the rear AC vents?

But whats interesting is that the US 2014 Civic finally gets the same CVT as the US Accord, and fuel consumption is slightly improved, as well as 0-60mph acceleration improves to 8.8 secs from 9.1 in the 5 speed auto Civic. Of course, the US FB Civic gets a upgraded exhaust system that also increased power/torque slightly. So, between the rear AC vents and the CVT/increase in power, id rather get the latter, though both would be even better, but it may increase the price further up.

Now, wonder what the 4/5 new models are other than City, Jazz & Vezel? Do hope the new Stream gets launched here. But apart from China (which calls it the Jade), no market in the world has actually launched the new Stream. The Jade/Stream is one sexy piece of MPV/wagon crossover. Give it the new 2.0 turbo previewed in Japan, then it will kick some arse.

Proton will launch the 5 new models at 2015, citing Proton Civic , Proton City, Proton CRV ,Proton Jazz and Proton Freed . All just by stick the badge onto it and claimed it re-badge!! Price cut down 20k, claimed it new model and organize a name-suggesting competition to get a more ‘patriotic’ name for these models.
