Peugeot 2008 crossover – 100,000 units produced

peugeot-2008-driven-alsace 022

Less than a year after its global launch, the Peugeot 2008 has passed the 100,000-unit production milestone. Main production in Mulhouse, France has so far seen three increases to the current 680 units a day – double the rate at launch.

According to Peugeot, the higher Allure and Feline trim levels account for 68% of sales – evidence of the French carmaker’s move up-market in the B-segment.

In the UK, over 5,000 units have found homes, with the level of conquest sales currently standing at an impressive 70%. Dealers have been asked to sell another 18,000 in 2014, and 1,194 have been registered in January alone.

Last year, analyst IHS Automotive predicted that the Peugeot 2008 would quickly overtake the Nissan Juke to lead the B-SUV segment, which it said will surpass half a million sales by 2015. That’s nearly 70% up from 2012.

IHS Automotive expected 200,000 Peugeot 2008s to be sold in 2015, with half of that number built in Mulhouse for Europe and other markets (apart from South America and China). 45,000 will be made in Brazil, and the remainder in China.

We wonder how it’s doing in Malaysia so far – the Ford EcoSport and Honda Vezel have yet to arrive. The Peugeot 2008 went on sale here last month, wearing a RM119,888 price tag. Prior to its local launch, we drove the crossover in Alsace, France – read our review here.

    • Its overpriced here. Pricing wise should compete with Toyota Rush and not the midsize SUV pricing territory.

@Autofrenz. The Toyotas sold outside Malaysia are way better than the models offered here. Go to the Toyota Japan/ USA website, do you see the Vios? No! Toyota makes good cars, but the models sold in Malaysia are crap. So if you’re using worldwide sales to justify the crap product Toyota sells us here, you’re just being very silly. And a TROLL.

Have you driven a Rush? I have. The seat are uncomfortable, the acceleration is shit and the plastics inside are horrible. Forget handling, it feels like a boat! Tell me what’s so good about that? You fanboys have to wake up, the models here are crap. Why support a crap product?

If only the maintenance and spare parts issues can be solved, this is a great option for a small family outings… And yes, when i says family car, I don’t give a damn on RV nor speeding on highway.

100k units in 12 mths period?

see proton this is what you need to do. sell 100k units a year of a particular model to be able to reduce the cost of production – hence cheaper cars.

to sell 100k cars comprising several models (saga, satria, persona, inspira, exora) is not very clever.

How cheap can they go…its already cheap maaa…not even RM300 per month…where can you find something like this…not even trinidad & tobago or even gabon…which is a sovereign state on the west coast of Central Africa. Located on the equator, Gabon is bordered by Equatorial Guinea to the northwest, Cameroon to the north, the Republic of the Congo on the east and south, and the Gulf of Guinea to the west. It has an area of nearly 270,000 square kilometres (100,000 sq mi) and its population is estimated at 1.5 million people. Its capital and largest city is Libreville…just in case you donno…

  • The most unattractive part, they only give free service on the NOS (New Old Stock) models, 208 and 2008 is out of the list. How to attract customers?

(I got my sources from Peugeot kota damansara)
