Mazda Hazumi Concept previews next-gen Mazda 2

211/ , EUROPA; SCHWEIZ, GENF, Datum: 03.03.2014 12:00:00: 84 INTERNATIONALER AUTO SALON in Genf 2014 84e Salon International de l'Auto et accessoires, PALEXPO - Stefan Baldauf / SB-Medien

This is the Mazda Hazumi concept, which previews the next-generation Mazda 2 hatchback. Mazda’s next generation B-segment car is set to debut in 2015, replacing the current third-generation Mazda 2/Demio that has been around since 2007.

The name Hazumi means to “bound” or “spring up” in Japanese, a name suited to a small Japanese car that appears to be ‘bursting with energy’. It takes on Kodo design cues from its larger siblings, the Mazda 3 and the Mazda 6.

The interior features a instrument cluster that has a family resemblance to the Mazda 3’s. The air-condition vents are circular and we only see three – we think the production car is likely to get a few more vents especially in the middle of the dash, where they will be tasked to blow air to the rear as well since rear air-con vents are unlikely in a B-segment car.

What do you think? Has Mazda’s Kodo design language translated well to a short and compact car like the Mazda 2? And will Mazda build a sedan version of the production car with this generation?

  • Omg! This is the first ever times I have the urge to buy a B segment hatch!
Compared to previous Mazda 2, it’s like heaven and hell, u know which one is hell right.
It’s no loser to hot Alfa Romeo or any other euro hot hatch, impressed by Mazda!

Better looking 100 times than the current sedan (the current hatchback is ok)…the sedan is so hideous people are running away everytime it passes through them…it looks like a penyet tempe…esp the rear…so damn fugly…even its twin evil sister ford fiesta sedan is equally ugly…(the hatchback is beautiful though)…but there are people buying…just to be different from vios and city owners…but too bad they ve made a wrong choice…

What Proton can offer with the GSC things that the world already knows? Or just another case of syok sendiri…as usual lah.

Great lah… if the new Mazda2 turns out this good, or anything remotely similar….. I’m going through a crisis already. Suprima 6-spd manual or new Mazda2 ? Why lah…. why ? Why is life so cruel !?!

Why downvote this guy? Give him a break, he just got his life’s devotion to Proton shaken by a concept of one of the most beautifully designed B-segment cars in the world. That’s gotta say something in Mazda’s favor, right? *sheds a manly tear*

      I feel you, man.

Not for Mazda. Cx-5, Mazda 6, virtually identical to concept version.

I’m not a big fan of this actually, I think the proportion looks funny. I think the Peugeot 208 is one of the nicest looking B segment car, just that 4 speed shit box deal breaker spoiled it.

i seriously doubt that this car will get LED light for front and rear. the curve of the side profile may look the same.

For interior wise, again, i dont think so it will get the white contrast. It will be black. Anyhow, look bad ass compared to hideous toyota from altis to camry. ultra hideous.

I doubt your predictions. Mazda seems very safety conscious throughout their range, offering 6 airbags in even the Mazda3 along with their version of ESP. I don’t see what will stop them from continuing the trend. They don’t market themselves as entry-level and they got the price tags (pretty high~) and equipment (it is more comprehensive than most rivals) to prove it.

Another failure (in Malaysia only) if the cabin size remains the same as what the existing model adopted.

Ford Fiesta and Suzuki swift (big discount) is a very good looking vehicle also look good but interior space is suck.

Malaysian prefers a bigger interior space that can accommodate 5 adult as where the new City/Vios/Almera has improved on this.

Mazda car look good from outside but their overall package is not complete without a good interior space.

Truly one of the most good looking car out there, beats concept from BMW or Audi lately.

The back reminds me a lot of Alfa, which is good as Mazda and Alfa is known to design the best looking cars out there.

Combined with Mazda’s godly reliability, technology which makes Germany engineer wet their beds and excellent fuel consumption, this car will take the world by storm!

    Mark my words!

Most good handling cars have small interior space ie. mazda3, focus, 3 series etc. Its to prevent the occupants from sloshing and tumbling upside down when the driver is enjoying him/herself too much taking corners at break neck speeds.

Mark my words – once the new Mazda2 arrives to shore there will be the jokers who would try to justify fitting a whole family into a B-segment car and then complain that it is not as roomy as a Honda Accord or would rather go for a Toyota X for the RV…
