Next-gen Hyundai Sonata teased, reveal this month

hyundai-sonata-teaser

Here’s an image teasing the next-gen Hyundai Sonata, which is set to be revealed in South Korea later this month before making its world debut at the NY International Auto Show in April.

The fluid, flowing lines of its YF predecessor are gone, replaced by a more mature and stoic appearance afforded by the ‘Fluidic Sculpture 2.0’ design language (see new Hyundai Genesis). But where have we seen that hexagonal grille before…?

Hyundai says more advanced high-strength steel (51% vs 21% previously) has been used in the new car’s platform. Along with increased use of structural adhesives, more hot-stamped parts and the addition of dual-member structures in key body areas, the next-gen Hyundai Sonata promises to be lighter and 40% more rigid than before.

The Korean carmaker is aiming for a “Good” IIHS small overlap test score with this one – seven airbags and “new seat belt technologies” are mentioned. Expect the cabin to undergo some changes, too.

  • This sonata looks more mature and solid (what camry has) and still looks “fluidic” and sexy (what camry doesnt hv)
i hv no doubt hyundai will put all the goodies into this car and SLAY the camry …it will definitely get very very close to camry sales in the US, if not beating it…

      • It is impossible for them to get any closer to Camry which is selling at 400k p.a. or the Accord or even Altima because Hyundai is having production constraint in their US plant so Sonata is only looking at around 200k p.a..

The new sonata will slay all sonata buyers when it gets launched. Resale value will drop further 20%. Even Hyundai’s own salesman afraid to offer good trade in value. My own experience owning a Kia.

    • Shame on you Proton. Luckily Honda pity kasihan at you to rebadge Accord.

If Proton still make big loss, better sell off factory to Hyundai. Do not waste good steels OK.

I will have to lower the trade in value of 15 month old Sonata to RM55-RM60k now

KIA owners? I still reject trade in

You talk as tho you control the entire used car market, but in reality you are just a UMW junior salesman worrying about your shrinking paycheck. Please la…nobody gives a damn whether you reject or not. Plenty of used car dealers will buy. If not, lots of forummers here will easily buy. If not, I’ll easily pay 65-70k cash for 1 yr old cerato anytime.

No point to go for tit for tat with people such as this anti Korean guy, if we really ask him to look out for us a RM 60K 15th month old Sonata, I doubt he will manage to get one unless he steal one from the streets.

  • The current Sonata looks overly flashly with too much shining chrome, but the new grille looks like the old short lived Sonata NF wit teribble RV

  • This looks so much better than the current one which I think is a bit too curvy. But yea, the front end is very similar to the Subaru Legacy, even the shape of the headlamps… Err….

Those who so afraid (chicken) on RV are those who don’t have passion to drive. What they care is go to point A to point B. So just buy a cheap car shut up & drive.

THey should only buy viva 660 basic and shut up. No point buying anything else as RV is worse.

Hooray! That is right, Viva 660cc less than RM 30K, good RV for them.
Those anti Korean guys just don’t realise that the people that own Korean cars do not care 2 hoods about any RV.

Exterior design-wise, it’s a vast improvement over the overly done and ungainly fluidic design theme of the current model. Good job.
