CKD Ford Transit launching in April – 2.2 TDCi, 6 M/T

Ford Motor Company and Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC) have announced that the Transit commercial van will be officially launched at showrooms early next month. The Ford Transit, which is being assembled at the Inokom plant in Kulim, marks the restart of assembly operations for Ford in Malaysia.

A proven workhorse with over seven million units sold worldwide, the Ford Transit is currently sold in six continents and 116 markets globally. Ford claims that the Transit delivers a best-in-class combination of fuel economy, power and cargo capacity.

The CKD Transit is the fifth-gen van, which only recently made way for a new model in Europe and North America. It will be available in two high roof variants – the 13-seat Passenger Van and the Panel Van 350L – both powered by a 2.2 litre Duratorq TDCi engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

With the Transit on sale, Ford plans to launch a network of specialist commercial vehicle (CV) centres by the end of the year. The Ford CV centres will provide a “world-class standard of aftersales service” as well as extended opening hours to help minimise vehicle downtime and reduce overall cost of ownership for commercial vehicle operators.

Van aside, other new Fords coming to Malaysia this year are the Fiesta Ecoboost, Fiesta ST hot hatch and EcoSport compact SUV. All three were previewed at KLIMS13.

Hoping for cheap(er) locally assembled Fiesta ST. Some may argue about quality vs German made Fiesta ST, but if you can’t afford it, it doesn’t matter how high the quality is, isn’t it?

The normal Fiesta we get is Thai-made, but as far as I know, the 3-door ST is from Germany. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

I’m not going to nitpick on 3 vs 5 doors, German or Malaysian assembled. All I know is having an “affordable” Fiesta ST is better than no car.. haha.

  • “The Ford CV centres will provide a “world-class standard of aftersales service” ” as a current Ford ownwer I would say this is BS until they better their current non-commercial vehicle aftersales..

This is an old product. This is the fifth generation Ford Transit.

The 6th generation Ford Transit is already selling in other countries.

We are living a transparent and consciously planet.
How the Malaysian businesses do business the old ways is not going to work in the new era. We know the truth, and we know more than the companies that produce it.

This is clearly the fifth-generation V347 model which is outdated.

I foresee Malaysians are intelligent enough with the transparency of the internet and many will not participate to buy an old product.

Again, the old ways of doing business in Malaysia have to go. What are the old ways?

“Assuming Malaysian don’t know the truth and which is better”

We all know and just waiting to see these companies react. If they sell crap products, of course the public will not eagerly participate.

These companies, please. Go and do some research before assuming the public will want to buy.
