SPIED: Ford Fusion (Mondeo replacement) on ELITE

DSC_0041

Reader Adam Shaharel just sent us these pictures of a Ford Fusion in Malaysia. Thanks, buddy! Spotted on the ELITE Highway heading to Shah Alam, the D-segment sedan was caught completely uncovered, which is rare in this day and age. Not that we’re complaining, that is.

The silver sedan looks rather flash under the Malaysian sun, with its dual exhaust ports and twenty-spoke alloy wheels (yes, we counted them) standing out rather well. We can’t quite make out the Aston Martin-esque front grille, but the swept-back headlight and matching tail lamps are clear to be seen.

Ford’s Malaysian distributor, Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC), confirmed to us at KLIMS13 – where a Ford Fusion Hybrid was displayed – that the upcoming Mondeo replacement will be badged as the Fusion. Makes sense, really, considering that the Mondeo nameplate never really caught on here.

When it arrives in Malaysia, the Fusion will fit above the Fiesta and Focus in Ford’s Malaysian lineup. It’s not the only car on SDAC’s horizon, of course. As we already know, the Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost is set for an April launch, while the Fiesta ST and EcoSport will be here later in the year. The Transit van, meanwhile, has just been announced.

      • As one of the current Mondeo ecoboost owner, l would say Mondeo is awesome even speeding at 220km/h it still stays calm & stable.
Powershift problem?? Not from what l know. It does not react as fast as DSG but performs very smoothly and easy to dwell with.
        One word — Awesome

Only reason Mondeo failed was because lack of promotion. It’s a Euro CBU from Belgium which is why it command such price.

Unfortunately typical Malaysians (like yourself I’m sure) couldn’t see past the badge. Crap cars get high sales just because they have the T badge.

      Pathetic.

Actually its on the tow truck because the Powershift gearbox broke down. The same problem with Powershift on the Focus and Fiesta. So don’t make the mistake of buying this car with Powershift.

Sure or not? My friend owns a 2011 Fiesta and he doesn’t have any problems whatsoever. But then, he’s the type of guy who services his car at the SC rather than some mekanik bawah pokok.

Anyways, is the Fusion a CBU from Mexico?

      • Official SC or dedicated specialist? If official SC, then obviously you are lying.

I have a Fiesta and Lynx RS and I gotta say, the official SDAC SC is totally rubbish.

Although I cant say about the tow truck bit, the problems with the Powershift gearbox are real, even in their 6speed version:

Actually the truck belongs to a transport company that transport new cars.It is not a breakdown tow truck. So the car is a new car not a broken down unit.

Bro, don’t give them ideas. But anyway, the Mondeo looks great when it was launched, but like the previous gen Focus, it doesn’t age well. There is one in my neighborhood, it’s in green for better or worse.

To compete with T and H, SD must not only bring in 2.0l but also 1.5l turbo and price it below 160k … without this impact Ford is no where to compete in segment D market …

Ok, at least they have all passengers car named now consistently : fiesta- focus-fusion where their fans can
Flocked together fondly calling their cars Fofi , Fofo and Fofu

Funny how many “F” words can be fun and fabulous like the freaking American be freely found to have fixation on

May be it is a good idea to do the same for their SUV , MPV and pick ups, etc

How about to complete the vowels , we need a Fofa and a fofe. And more importantly keep it in 2 syllabus (so it would not be too hard for the American) That makes Fargo and Ferret to replace b-max and Kuga ?

waited and waied for this to come here….mazda 6 came….even the new honda accord came and months passed…ended up going for a A4 with fantastic discounts. Fussion is a good car just that SDAC took way too long to bring this car here…..late like almost 2 years….all those who were waiting for a new D-segment car would have got a new ride by now….Just find the initial exitment around fussion is gone…sudenly i find this design a little dated….may be just me. Its so common to see them as taxis in EU. HOpe SDAC promotes it well enough to raise the profile of the fussion here as a serious contender in the D segment with a good overall package.

rent-a-car when the Fusion was 1st introduce. Even without hybrid is one of the fuel saving car..from LA-Vegas-LA only pump 1 round (2 tanks used)..
I thought it is only LHD in Fusion, so I wonder if this replacement is true or not..
