Subaru VIZIV-2 Concept – 1 diesel + 3 electric motors

Subaru VIZIV-2-04

One year after unveiling the original concept, Subaru has revealed a new version of its two-door, four-seater future tech and design showcase vehicle – the Subaru VIZIV-2 Concept – at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.

The VIZIV-2 is a next-gen crossover concept that was created to show how advanced technology can further improve the All-Wheel Drive Subaru driving experience, while indicating at a possible future design direction for Subaru’s production vehicles, FHI says. The former is more interesting.

The 4.4-metre VIZIV-2 is powered by a 1.6 litre DIT turbodiesel boxer engine, plus three electric motors. While the diesel engine and front electric motor move the front wheels, two independent motors at the rear channel torque to each wheel, depending on driving conditions. Power is provided by a lithium-ion battery pack and the gearbox is a Lineartronic CVT unit.

The system automatically selects the best time to use each power unit, achieving greater fuel efficiency and max stability and safety. The front/rear motors supply much of the vehicle’s propulsion during low-speed or city driving, while the diesel ICE takes over at higher speeds. Auto start/stop and multiple charging methods – engine power generation, regenerative braking and plug-in charging – further improve efficiency.

VIZIV-2 features a new variation of Subaru’s SI-Drive driving control system. To the original system’s ‘Intelligent’ and ‘Sports’ modes, Hybrid SI-Drive adds an ‘Eco-Cruise’ mode which works in conjunction with the EyeSight driver assist system. Data from EyeSight’s stereo camera is used to optimise engine/motor outputs to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

Sounds promising, but will the next step be a production Viziv or merely a VIZIV-3 Concept?

    • With Subaru, don’t have high hope that it will look anything like the concept… the body panels will not have much contour, most likely as flat as pancake..

Subaru has been using this grille for quite some time. Just because u first saw it on a Hyundai, that doesn’t mean Subaru copied.

From rear backview you can see this SUV has potential to become future subaru XV. Its size also fits well.
