2015 Hyundai Sonata shows its new face in leaked pix

2015_Hyundai_Sonata_leak_01

Set to debut later this month, the all-new 2015 Hyundai Sonata has shown its pretty face early in these leaked photos from Korea. Like what you see? Looks like the teaser image released last week mirrors the real thing rather closely, which is rare these days.

The fluid, flowing lines of the current Sonata YF (see gallery below to refresh your memory) are gone, replaced by a more mature and stoic appearance afforded by Hyundai’s new ‘Fluidic Sculpture 2.0’ design language that debuted on its new Genesis luxury sedan.

Hyundai has released a sketch of its upcoming D-segment challenger’s interior too, which previews a much more driver-focussed cockpit than before. As with the exterior, the curves of the current cabin make way for a sharper, more involving look.

The Korean company also talks up the new car’s improved safety, with seven airbags and “new seat belt technologies” being mentioned. So, what do you think of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata so far?

Beneath the skin, the Kia Optima and the Hyundai Sonata are virtually identical twins. This would be because Hyundai is the majority owner of Kia(49.2%), though it allows Kia to run as a mostly autonomous unit. Both the Sonata and Optima share the same chassis, some engines, suspension and steering fundamentals. Interior and trunk space is quite similar, too, with lots of front-seat leg room and head room, with above-average knee room in the back seat and head room.

I totally agree. Something is a bit off. Just can’t put my finger on it. To be honest, I still prefer our current generation.

I think the grille on the current gen Sonata looks rather strange. The grille on the new one, however, is awesome…

The car on the whole looks a lot more muscular and that is a good thing, no?

While the old one looked just too busy, especially the front, this one fixes that. Good on you Hyundai. Now just make the cabin feel nicer, bring in the Turbo GDi and we’ll have another hot competitor.

Hafriz, will this new Sonata be the first Hyundai to have Hyundai’s own new ride and handling technology that is developed in Nurburgring?

WARNING: My stand on Hyundai’s design language is in the minorities, seeing how a larger number of comments(Not just here, but all over)are usually positive. So most likely will get carpet bombed for this…..

Covering the front end it looks more like a facelift given it still shares a similar side profile, but the look now is arguably cleaner and neat, the front end is also much better. Gone is the stretched face and now is a more moderate and sedate look, which is fine by me. The guys back at the international forums are calling it beige but it still is eye catching next to the usual Japanese(Mazda aside), do I like it? I’ll wait for the official photos.

  • I don’t really like this new sonata. Looks too Volvoish at the front. The interior especially the dashboard looks terrible, is like an old bug eyed impreza dashboard in design. Current Sonata looks much better and it also spells out Hyundai’s own unique design character. Disappointing, this new Sonata looks like a step backwards.

  • Cars are tend to be boxy these days. Look at the accord & Camry but i think the current Sonata is nice. This upcoming model looks boxy and i kinda like it. Just my personal opinion. I still admire the new Mazda 6!
